    Lambda Probe question

    Hi all,
    does a faulty lambda probe show up on vagcom? My fuel consumption has dropped by 1-2mpg and I feel a very slight 'surging' at constant throttle and a very slight fluctuation in rpm at idle.
    Is the lambda the first likely suspect? Anyone know the price of these? Are they from Vagparts?
    And if I do proceed, if this an easy job - or am I going to see Tim (QRSports) again?
    Cheers

        OK - the search came up with - close one end and spray WD40 into the other. is this correct - but still don't know where it is (ISV). can anybody help on this. will aim to do both tonight.

                Bad lambda tends to enrichen rather than make it run lean.

                  ah - bad wording I think on my original post. What I meant to say was - I am getting 1-2 miles less per gallon.

                      cleaning ISV

                      Hi, visit 20v.org/engprob.htm for a good guide to cleaning the ISV. Its for the 20v 7a engine but the same guidance should work for your car.

                        @Pjeast

                        A bad lambda does indeed show up on VAGCOM, and also gives you exactly the symptoms you've described: rough running, surging/hesitation at constant throttle, lumpy tick-over and less boost. I know because I've just had the same issue - you can read my thread here if this helps

                        New Lambda probe is a doddle to fit: from VAGParts a genuine item is about £70 inc VAT and delivery. Worth cleaning your MAF and ISV as well though!

                        Good luck, let us know how you get on.

                          Cheers Dan (and everyone else). Going to order a new Lambda from Vagparts - hope they can get it me quick and I'll fit this and do the cleaning at the weekend. Dan's thread does sound a lot like me - so fingers crossed.

                            VAGparts took about 7 days to deliver the probe to me. Apparently you can get generic ones from other suppliers, but I don't know anything about that.

                            Good luck!

                              Dont bother with those, BTDT and it was a right joke. Stick to OEM.
