    Thanks for this

I will remove the TB this eve and get some photos if the full damage once the rocker cover is off.

              Wtf

Replaced the cam at the weekend and set the timing marks, turned her over only to find that the cams wont turn and subsequently snapped the woodruff key on the cam wheel,

Thought for some reason the cam wheel had come loose during refitting so replaced the cam wheel and checked all the torque settings, - confident that all would now be well I left the rocker off and dissy removed and turned the engine a quater turn by hand to make sure cams rotated

              this they did -

Again confidence took over so I turned the engine over on the starter motor

              snap

second woodruff key gone - guess that all is NOT well but i am now thinking the worst

Hmm, did you remove the exhaust cam to change the chain george? if so what procedure did you use to un-do/tighten the cam pulley bolt.

Yes I had to remove the Exhaust cam to release the chain and refit the replacement inlet cam

Is there something i am should have done

At this point, first of all check the engine timing!

Both cams were alligned together, the two punch marks facing each othetr at 3 and 9 oclock with NO1 TDC and pulley mark bang on the dimple, I even have a dip stick for No1 Piston pre-marked to double check TDC. Rotor Arm aligned and double checked. I dont think ive missed anything.

I replaced the Cam Pully bolt and washer for new and tightened to 67NM no real procedure though.

Ok good. So there is something rather strange going on now. The cams or one of them is somehow stuck and this causes the woodruff keys to snap?

Quarter turn is not enough btw. Turn the engine over by hand many times before starting.

I agree, we turned mine over several times before using the key

                              OK

I have the day off tomorrow

If i turn the Engine as many times as i can by hand until I am happy that all is well, can I then fit old pully wheel without the woodfuff to the turn over the engine on the key

This might save a few bob on replacement cam wheels

When you were tightening/untightening the pulley bolt did you hold the cam or the pulley itself. You must clamp the cam. If you hold it by the pulley, when the nut is being tightened down the cam will try to turn with it putting pressure on the woodruff key probably cracking it, so when your putting more stress through it by cranking via the starter it will shear off.
