Interest in crossmembers for larger ICs?

    Gents:

Putting a feeler out for interest in a manufactured IC crossmember/snub mount support that would accomodate the interooler of your choice (3inch thick not a problem).

Essentially you would get a box frame structure that contains a snub mount and bolts to the bumper support locations.- you would have to sort out the exact mounts for your IC, etc. - but with the base structure, your work would be minimal

I have broached the idea with Javad, and he says that it can be done - CNCd, TIG welds, etc....pretty and precise. Javad says that his design fits the CQ, B3 80/90 and the B4 90 and of course the S2. (in fact it fits behind the US DOT bumpers on a B3 80)

There has to be sufficient interest in making this viable however...so he asked me to ask around ...

Look at the rough shape of the cross members in the next two pictures. But then think about that being CNC stamped and TIG welded if necessary, instead of being made from box tubing welded together, akin to the support for the front mount C4 intercooler in the last picture.

This is what a CNC stamped and CAD plated C4 front mounted IC support looks like:

Javad is estimating a unit cost of about $295 USD retail for a CNC stamped Intercooler crossmember (not welded box tubing) that would easily allow for a 3 inch thick IC core.

But cost would be considerably less if there is a group buy of more than 5 ($225 each USD)

Shipping estimate to UK is about $40 USD by USPS Express mail, less per unit if they would be sent in a group in one package to a UK address...

                So, is there any interest?

but would want to ship it with my intercooler which is coming from the states too
my intercooler size will be core size 300 x 600 x 75mm 31" wide in total

Any comments, concerns or interest? There have been a number of threads on custom crossmembers to allow for larger Intercoolers....

Looking at that pic, I am not sure it will fit behind an RS2 bumper. ABY and 3B have different pulleys (IIRC) so you can get one of them to fit better than the other, with less cutting of the bumper. BTDT.

I might be wrong but I would check fitments on all cars before commiting to a production run.

                            Doug:

Javad told me that he is working on some drawings to better illustrate the CNC support. The intent is that it would work with 3B, ABY, and ADU engines, bolt right up to the chassis, and leave the intercooler choice up to the owner.
