    Alfie, this may make you feel better...

    I have THE worst MPG possible. In order to get some kinda decent MPG reading I force myself to drive like an old granny in a 1.0 Micra - and even then the best I can get is 21 MPG. If I so much as even press the pedal down a lil too much the average automatically goes to about 17MPG. Now that is what I call bad.

    But then again, my engine is in severe need of some seeing to! ops:

      didnt we come to the conclusion that a faulty thermostat reduces mpg also?

        Yes sir - well remembered that man !

        If the thermostat is stuck fully open then the coolant never gets sufficiently hot enough to push the ECU into working on warm engine settings => that fuel can be wasted this way.
