    Un-known modification.

My over-boosting days are over. The modification that my car seems to have is: The pipe to the cold side of the turbo to the WGFV also goes to the airbox with a restrictor within in. Without this pipe the car wont boost. Without restrictor car overboosts. I missed this little piece of metal was in a pipe when changing to silicon hoses due to TBV failure.

Does anyone know this modification? Or why?
Did check for non-audi chip, ECU has been opened, but no makers name on a chip. Car now runs perfect, with good MPG and plenty of go.

Any thoughts? Or, advice to those who might have the same set up as me!!

Many many thanks to the forum for helping me discover this.

    Martin.

That pipe should NOT have a restricter in it. Must have some sort of chip in it

This sounds similar to my old tune. My WGFV was disabled and didn't control the boost. Just the hose from the turbo cold side to the WG actuator, this was 'T'ed to the top of the airbox acting as a bleed valve, to keep boost at ~1.1 bar.
You may have some dodgey chips too, as I did. Are the chips in DIL sockets?

So it was chipped after all. The joys of these cars. I would advise you to get MRC to look at the car and ideally custom remap it.
Removing the WGFV from the setup can lead to major problems protecting the engine from Xs boost if something dies.
Lots of posts to that effect. AAH/Angus had something similar on his RS2 which was sorted at the last meet. Basically its a modification done by those who do not 'speak motronic'

Have photos of ECU when taken out. The chips(x2) in removable sockets, both have part no's on them, both nearly the same apart from, one ending in 22 and the other ending in 21 and 164 writtten over it in yellow. The car was the same as 4wheeldrifter(above), but now its as it should be, just with a T -piece and an extra pipe to airbox and restrictor within. Which is not quite as it should be!!

In essence, my joy, that my car now works again is smashed!

            Thanks.

Chips ending 021 and 022 are right for gen2 ABY chips, but the overwriting is a worry. Someone could have re-used labels. Chip sockets are very unusual in a stock ECU. I've encountered a few late IMMO equipped cars that were socketed at the factory.

Let me know if you wanna run with some decent chips !

Every 3B ECU I've seen has the sockets from the factory. So Paul's statement applies to direct ignition ECU's only.
