    anyone know g60 engines?????

just got a new toy,yes its not an s2 before you say anything!!,just wondered if anyone on here knows much about the g60 motor, ive never had much to do with them and cant seem to find out a lot, does anyone know what boost pressure it should run with a smaller pulley and chip?its boosting just over 0.5bar at present, and doesnt like wot,if i back of at wot slightly it will pick up ok,but its definitely holding back,i cant find any air leaks so most likely something electrical preventing more boost, any ideas anyone????http://www.msnusers.com/vagpictures/shoebox.msnw?Page=2

I had one doing similar once. ECU was in limp home mode. Disconnected battery for 10 mins or so and was fine. Mate of mine has a G60'd Mk1 Golf, but that is Nothelle tuned!! Rare from what i can make out. Not sure what boost it is running

that was my plan, quick and fairly cheap, has a very low ratio gbox, definitely lower than 8v gti,so acceleration is pretty fierce along with no traction in the wet!!ive tred disconnectin the battery but still the same,im not sure what chip is in the ecu or even what standard boost pressure is supposed to be,it still goes well at 0.5 bar though!!

Any fault codes?? Did the installer add the 2x2 connectors?? You can then use vag-com or the details on S2 central for pulling codes.

It might have a boost leak, if it splutters and holds back at WOT. Pressure test it.

no 2x2 adaptor i can see anywhere, wiring was crude to say the least, ive spent all wknd tidying bits up and checking things,so if 0.65 bar is standard i would expect at least 0.8 bar with smaller pulley and chip, maybe need a remap??

i never had a boost gauge on my G60, however i know my G40 made 1bar, given the increase in engine size and charger size, im pretty sure you should be seeing over 1bar with a smaller pulley

Make sure the charger has been rebuilt, they had a tendancy to go pop, nice car though

tell tale sign of the charger seals going was oil leaking down the pressure side pipe.

Pitstop Developments are a good company for servicing chargers along with a lot of other goodies

its got a stage 4 jabbasport charger so should be ok for a while,no oil leaks, all pipework is ok no boost leasks, intercooler looks a bit manky but holds pressure, its definitely something electrical preventing boost pressure increase???

Check the vac hose from the back of the throttle body to the ECU. It often gets chaffed at the ends or where it runs next to front bulkhead - causing a leak. Also check the length of the hose. It should be exactly 1.0 metre in length. if it has been shortened or is too long the ECU will not be able to make sense of the boost and therefore not respond accordingly. Bear in ming that a G60 only boosted about 0.7 bar on a good day before any mods. Get up to 1.0 bar and you are doing well, with a Stage 4 rebuild.
I had a G60 Corrado for about 8 years before converting to the Audi-side.
If still having probelms give John Mitchell a ring at JMR - 07974 020031. He knows G60s better than most - generally there are a lot of other people out there talking complete bull.

I have a detailed pdf VW document on the G60 engine - but its 10.8mb. I can e-mail it if it will help.
