Checking turbo?

Hi on the way home tonight i thought i heard the turbo whistling a little. I have never heard this before but i could just be being paranoid. I have read on here that if its whistling then thats a sign the turbo is on its way out. The turbo must be working hard after my remapp. I just want to no how can i check the turbo to see if its ok? If it is going how much is it to get it reconditioned or a replacement?

It could just be nothing. Make sure you check your oil. A worn turbo will make a proper whine. New turbo's can be sourced from here cheap TURBO Not sure on all the details but could be a cheap alternative. AET turbo's is close to me, as is a couple of other turbo re-builders. It might be worth looking into how much a re-build is.

Just see how you get on with the K24. How many miles has it got on it??

171000 is on the clock so quite a few. I will check the history to see if there was a change in turbo previously. Its not a whine just a slight whistle. Maybe i have just not noticed it before.

could it have anything to do with the diverter valve or a boost leak from a hose or something? I was going to get a boost leak test done at billing and a diverter valve fitted by Doug. Mihnea did reccomend i got it done after the remapp although mine was fine at the time

It could be a slight leak. Try not to drive it too hard until Doug or Mihnea have had a look/listen

If it is WOT in 4th then I would say it was normal. My S2 owned from 18 months and the RS2 both produce a turbo whistle (faint) at what I assume is near max turbo load.

seems to be more in forth to be honest. I also get a slight hesitation more as the boost picks up. It seems to me its a little boost leak. What symptoms are there for a boost leak i will try and match them up

Chexk the main hose onto the throttle body. You can sometimes hear a hiss when it leaks

To be honest i am at the bottom of the knowledge pile when it somes down to ars so i dont even no where the main hose is onto the throttle body is. I notice your from Surrey whereabouts ?

Thats just up the road from me mate. I live about two mins outside Oxted im surprised i have not seen u about. Nice to no there is another forum member from around my area. I will check that hose. Thanks for your help

Hi i thought i would take my car out while it was quiet and see if i could hear any whistle. The whistle did not seem to be as noticeable. One thing did happen though when i gave it WOT in fourth it hit 5000rpm and held back throwing me very slightly forward not jolting me just held back. I changed gear into sixth. Went to my favourite straight road just up from me gave it WOT in fouth again but this time nothing revved freely all the way through. Im just wondering if it could have anything to do with the cats as i almost certain that one of them has collapsed inside. What do u think?
