    VAGCOM reading urgently required

    Hi folks..

My 3B has started playing up again.. it just dies when driving. When I recently got a re-map done by Doug and Minhea they replaced the boost chip as it was returning checksum errors when read. This appeared to sort the problem as it was running fine since then about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Died again yesterday though.. and has done it today too. Anyone near Dunfermline in Fife who can pull the latest fault codes from the ECU for me? I don't wanna shell out for a replacement ECU if it is indeed not the problem, although it could well be. I believe a bad earth returns checksum errors too???

Any help on this matter greatly appreciated..

    Cheers

Piece of wire and you get blink codes ... IMHO better than nothing. Of course VAG-Com is better.

Check S2 central for the method of pulling fault codes

OK.. done that. Unfortunately my arm is in a sling at the moment due to a moment of madness on a mountain bike (been a bad week)... so I can't really do this at this time. Fault codes are comprehensively listed though.. which offered up some clues...

As the car is showing the exact same symptoms as before (ie cutting out while driving) I can perhaps assume it is due to the same problem as before. I had the fault codes pulled by VAG and also Minhea and they were the following:

1111 (Blink Fault Code), VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number 65535 Engine Control Unit (ECU) Defective memory circuits, incorrect Checksum for EPROM(s) (this can occur on some modified ECU's) Check ECU ground connections, Replace ECU?

ECU has been away to a specialist by the previous owner and could find no faults (I doubt they checked every chip though!!) .. Also Minhea did find faulty boost chip and replaced it. This appeared to fix the problem.. so as problem has returned it may be faulty ground connections (I do feckin hope so!!)

How do I check ECU for healthy or otherwise ground connections? I don't have any electrical equipment though.. perhaps a visual inspection?

Thanks for any info for the above folks..

Check the two earth connections on the side of the inlet manifold.
I had that 1111 code, it was a checksum error which mihnea rectified when i managed to get it properly remapped.

Ah.. so was it the earth connections that caused this problem? How did Mihnea rectify it? The 1111 blink code is symptomatic of both a faulty ECU and a possible bad earth..

No my earth points were ok, mihnea just changed a code in one of the maps and it went away. The car was running ok with the code. I just wanted rid of it.
