Turbo upgrade for 10V URQ- suggestions?

    Hi

When I have my 10v URQ uprated to fully electronic Injection and with a Dialynx Exhaust manifold it should be able to make about 320- poss 340BHP with a suitable turbo

The std water/oil cooled K26 on the MB is not up to much I think(280bhp?) the oil cooled K26 of the earlier WR engine URQ is a little better and will hit 320BHP(prob about max) at 1.7 Bar with above mods but won't do much below 3000rpm.

So I'm looking for advice/suggestions regarding choice, it would be a waste not to have it spool up in the early to mid 2000rpm range, as the turbo won't need to have very a high flow in the upper rpm range as 10v can't produce the same BHP as a highly tuned 20v. It will be hard work to get over 400BHP although someone is trying.

My thoughts are the much loved RS2 turbo which would be a straight fit and with a good reputation or a K26 housed GT28RS from 034 efi.
I'm not sure when the RS2 turbo would spool up on the 10v I think tuned 10v's will spool a turbo up earlier than a tuned 20v would that be correct? if the RS2 unit would spool up at 2500 in my 10v that would be great

    Any thoughts?

Not sure what to make of this, but I'll be interested in any replies, as I'm looking to go the same route.

My 10v (prior to selling engine) was same spec as you describe apart from larger intercooler and water injection, i replaced the WR K26 turbo for a Garrett T3.5 highbreed power came on at 2200rpm and was still producing 1.7bar at 6000rpm in fact climbing, probably cuz the head and em could not get rid of the waste fast enough.

I did go well though just struggled with high revs which sadly where the power is.

      Darren.

        Hi

        Thanks for the reply

Was this the Dialynx intercooler or one of your own design?

Where did you source the garret from?

Yes Dialynx intercooler, Garrett was from Turbo Technics Aldershot, its a shame i only sold the turbo a couple of months ago and it had only done 3000 miles.

            Hi

So did you keep the car and put a 20v engine in it?

                Hi

Where are you thinking of locating the intercoolers?

I'd been thinking of supplementing the std MB one with another small one in front of the main rad, just means theres a lot of tubing.

I've gone the hybrid route with this turbo

                  http://www.034efi.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=196

My car is a WR so didn't have the water cooling gubbins so installing that is proving a bit of a pain! The turbo bolted staight on though.

The intercooler is a right pain. When I had the dialynx one the inlet temps at only 1.5 bar were still marginal and exhaust temps through the roof. I bought a big IC (2 RS turbo ones welded together) off of ebay for £50 and it fitted perfectly behind the front grill (I have the dialynx radiator and so no auxilliary rad) but when we measured the capacity it was only 30% bigger than the dialynx one. Obviously putting it behind the grill was miles better than where the dialynx one was but I still thought it would be marginal.

So I have gone the Pace Products charge cooler route. I got a 3 core one with the water rad sitting behind the front grill.

Have the full RS2 motronic EFI setup etc etc

It is all being thrown together now!

Then to MRC for another remap!

I have the dialynx one in the usual space, alternator on a fabricated bracket on the other side with an S4 (AAN) intercooler in front of the main rad effectively twice the size intercooler with water injection in both intercoolers. K26/27 turbo RS2 EM 7A e/cam fully ported and flowed head, stronger rods etc etc etc etc hope to get about 430bhp

i can vouch for the fact that they are pants.they struggle at 350 never mind 450 my inlet temps got way too high during remap by mihnea. i'm currently looking into chargecoolers to see if they will be more efficient
