My 7A head (unknown manifold, 1990, so it could be either) has two studs, but the holes are drilled and tapped for the remaining studs. Going from memory, my other 7A head was the same way (tube-header).

Inlet and exhaust valves I believe carry the same part number between the 3B and 7A head. If they changed the 7A to non-Na filled, then they didn't change the part number.

        Surely they did.
        7A exhaust valve 027 109 611 D
        3B exhaust valve 027 109 611 B
        This info from MY 91.
Earlier 7A has the B valves, later ones the D ones.

Would the "B" and "D" designation indicate sodium filled / non sodium filled?

Well can't say for sure but yes I think so that B is sodium filled and D is not. Probably they thought that it's unnecessary for the N/A engine to have those. Can't be sure before someone cuts one D valve open

I just looked them up this morning, finally. The D's are used in some of the 9A engines (2.0L 16v), the NM and 7A 20v's. The B's are used in the 3B, AAN, ABY, ADU, RR, PT, ABH, KR, PL and some 9A's. The "unnecessary to use sodium filled stems in a non-forced induction engine" arguement is moot, as the PT and ABH are 32v V8's and the PL and 9A are 16v 4's, none of which are turbo-charged. Heck, the KR and PL were built for the 16v GTi and Scirocco back in 1984.
