I did some research about, and talk about LPG with some friends...
Its true that LPG have almost 110octanes and burn with the twice of temperature (could be much?) of gas? 55cents cost LPG here, 1,41€ cost 98 ron
If is true what they say, the power will reduce about 3% and MPG will be smaller too, But if LPG have the same octanage that avgas and have tha same power isn't a good OPTION???
Audi 100 TDI :mischeif:
MRC remap; Green Injectors; Champion Sparks; Forge DV 006; Samco Intake pipes; K&N filter
Xenon 6500k; Pillar Boost gauge; Alpine CDA 9835R on Bose with Infinity Sub
Oettinger 8x18" with GS-D3 225/40ZR18; Bilstein with H&R Springs (-40mm)
I had a freind who ran his Supra on LPG, he lost in reality about 10% power and the top speed was reduce somewhat. But if it's MPG u want and cost it's pretty good. Ok on a Nissan Micra or a Tranist, but IMO it's not for performance vehicles.
Just my two pennys worth!

If LPG have more higher octanes, doesn't that make the car more smooth, and safe? Can the engine have a hiher margin for boost?
The point was thinking is... LPG its more clean to engine/ambient, in city drive will be better for the car i think, true? And if it have more octane (dont now really if it is more inflammable) and hygher burn temps than Methanol, doesnt meke it a TOP FUEL?
AND
The burn temps will damage the engine or other part? and about standard remap on it? If it is safe why not use LPG for cruise and use Petrol for ... you know
I think that LPG have a bad reputation and isn't "cool", here in Portugal when we see a sport car with the LPG, we say and think "what crazy/miser guy" but this could be a just a old thinking, no??
I saw in MRC site a TT on LPG....
IT was cool we argue this question, just for knowledge...

If you drove a Micra, it's very unlikely you'll need LPG to increase MPG, and most Transits are diesel, you certainly won't run LPG on them!
There are new systems available now that run proper ECU's with diagnostic ports (you can configure them with software via PC / laptop), are multi point and sequential injected. The old crude systems were known as "backfire systems" - a single injector was fitted into the airbox or intake after the throttle. The intake was always full of gas, you had a backfire and the plenum blew itself to bits. The new systems are as sophisicated as the petrol fuel injection system.
My neighbour runs a 265PS modified TT 225 (her personal car), it runs on LPG, and her husband has a company car, a 2003 A4 quattro 1.8T, also LPG. I have driven both, and didn't detect any power loss at all. The old systems certainly lost power on modified engines, the new ones give virtually the same power as petrol. You can hit the button to switch between LPG and petrol and you won't detect the change over.
With the spiralling cost of petrol in rip - off Britain, this may well be another option.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Funny you should say that; clipped from an add on autotrader:

Petrol, 23,000 miles, . LPG Gas Converted, White...
That's gotta have an equivalent running costs close to 100mpg?! And on the diesel note, aparrently there's systems out there that inject an lpg/diesel mix above idle, with big power gains as a result and of course cheaper running costs as it burns mainly lpg!! The site i read this on said it's like "having nitrous"... I wouldn't want to be in the car whena big dielel engine went
The car will have a stabd alone ECU that control all LPG harware, injectores included, the system will be AUTO, idle to 2000rpm work with Petrol and above 2000rpm will work on LPG.
My concerns about LPG gas converted cars with Electronic injection is:
The temperature on the engine will be higher... can damage the valves? and about detonation? LPG have more MON (about 89) but we will have more temp!
The refrigeration system can handle the new temps of LPG?
EGT temps will rise no?
And about tunned cars? The stand alone ECU will read the data of Motronic? and will read all sensors on the car?
The LPG will burn better, and the will clean the engine, could this make some damages because the engine have some years... and about the preassure of this system?
We will need a better IC or water injection to control the ignition point??? or others parts like the Flashlub?
I think that LPG will bring:
More MPG, less toxic smoke, with a good install the engine will run like 98 Ron or even better on the cruise. And the funny think is, we always can run on Petrol if we want...

I have installed LPG systems. The early ones were indeed known as the "backfire" system, on a Range Rover the headlight (drivers side) would usually end up on the floor. You were needing a new one no matter what:-)
The Tartarini systems with which i am familiar are multipoint sequential systems, managed from their own piggyback ECU and the system, when switched to "auto" just uses the petrol system to reach operating temperature of 30 deg C and then seamlessly switches to gas. £40.00 from here (Newcastle) to Liverpool and back in a Range Rover? Last Wednesday morning i set out for work and by Thursday afternoon i had done £150.00 of unleaded in my Honda! I have a Tartarini kit ready to go into the Honda and all i need is the time to fit it!
