    BANG.....nightmare scenario. Help!

What a lovely day!....washed and polished car, coming back from friends BBQ

    .....late evening then BANG....

Well to cut to the chase, Driving at about 80-90 on accelaration, backfire, then nothing engine cuts out, all lights etc still fine.
Come to a halt, turn starter motor over and the crank wheel is wobbiling and no belts are tunring. hence no ignition.
I would assume this may be a terminal.

Horrific, stuck in the middle of nowhere at 9 oclock, request tow truck as this is going no where!!!!.....bloody RAC take 75 min, phone dies, they finally find me!!!....the plot thickens....RAC tunr up, nope, need tow truck!...no sh*t sherlock!....but tow is 45 min wait, okay.....then other phone dies, stuck on the a259 in the middle of nowhere with no phone and a tramp crawls out of the bushes. all i could see was the crimwatchers reconstruction!!!... ..luckily little bro arrives in time to wait till 10 then decide to phone RAC, put through to tow company, ''oh your out of our service area''. ...so another 1hr 30 min wait...finally come midight the truck arrives...then home....
    what a shocking day
    looks like no magazine shoot.
Any help would be a bonus, but i have a feeling she is going in the garage for a while as this is gonna be expensive

    thanks
    Mike (on my bros comp)

Hey Mike that does sound like you had a bad evening/night
going off what you have said its would seem your vibration damper/crankshaft pully
main bolt has snapped or worked loose causing the lug(woodruf key) that locates vibration damper/crankshaft pully on the crank shaft to sheer, this mean that when you are trying to restart you car after "Bang" the crank is turning but belt pulleys are motionless including cam belt and valve train, if your lucky you might not of damaged many internal parts like piston crowns or valves.

DO NOT try to start you engine again with out first checking the crank and the camshafts turn together (take cambelt top cover off and visualy check)
    good luck
    Dez

Never did overtime until i purchased........s2
