boosting late!?

hi folks,just bought a s2 avant.Bloody Fantastic 127000 miles and very clean.the only probs ive got are........Bad steering wobble at 50 to 60 MPH and also there seems to be not a lot of power until 4000 rpm and then all hell breaks loose!!!! Is it normal for such late boost? Or is the boost able to be altered on the wastegate? S2 is all new to me so would appreciate any advice. Cheers!

Welcome ,the boost should come in about 3000rpm then tails off about 5000rpm
well it does on mine anyway 4000 does seem alittle late .check forum for usual suspects.
Boost leaks are common on these motors worth checking. Andy.

thanks for that.I will check for boost leaks etc.Another thing,are the wastegates adjusteble?? there is a nut ontop of mine,can this be altered.as you can see...dont know ****** all But want to lern!!!!!!!!

The nut means that someone has messed about with it. Super chip agents do this. That is one "method" of tuning these cars. The other is to use the WGFV but if this goes on one, your boost goes out of control, if the protection has been removed from the ECU.
The boost will come in according to the data on the chip in the ECU and the spring fitted to the wastegate.
Get a boost gauge and have the wheels balanced, or swap the front to the rear and see if it makes a difference.
