    im getting used to this

but my wife isnt, anyway had my s2 avant since May just got it fixed, it's been driving fine for the last three weeks when i turn my music down and hear tapping coming from the engine bay so i pull over lift the hood and it sounds like an old ford escort mkIII,djavant suggested valve stem oil seals but it doesnt do it all the time could be there on the way out,are these an expensive fix or maybe its another problem cars done 213,000km like always would apreciate any help cheers guys.

worn stem seals wont make tapping noise. you will lose a bit of oil .it could be your hydrolic tappets are you using the right oil ?at 213000 km the stem seals probably do need doing if they havn,t been done before.

change the oil if its old, that can get rid of a tappety sound......ensure you are running something like a 10/60 like Castrol RS

Yep - Check the oil level. The tappets will "chatter" with low oil. Best to be avoided unless you want to listen to their tune all the time....

Agreed - make sure oil level is topped up before anything else, it causes the same clicking on hydraulic tappets for other engines too!
