    Onlys revs to 2550rpm

I tried the VAG1551 today in the light and noticed that the ECU never sees any rpm's over 2550. It works fine until this point but then will not go any higher. I take it that the ECU knows engine speed via G28 and postion of crank from G4. Checked both sensors for damage and also the flywheel. All OK. Im wondering if its a dodgy G28.

Anyone please help me get her back on the road with more than 100bhp!!
Its been three weeks or so now

Hi Tom, this is absolutely normal, the group 000 uses values from 0-255 (8 bit binary values) and 255 corresponds to 2550 RPM... there's no way to make it display more than 2550 RPM, this has been investigated by many people and unfortunately it can't do it as there are no other groups than 000 on the 3B ECU (goddamn stupid first generation of M2.3 moronic, that's also why I kinda hate it).

Another idea for your problem, could you try to hook up with SteveH and try his 3B ECU with your chips into it? I wonder if it's not the ECU itself actually, I have investigated everything that might cause such a problem and it's not the programming itself, nor a boost leak or whatever. A boost leak will throw out a "max boost exceeded" fault code, which your car doesn't do, another idea would be to bridge the fuel pump relay and go for a drive and see how it behaves, but I don't think it's a really good idea...

Isn't there anything really loose in the ECU itself? a wire might have come off, even though it's very unlikely....

        Cheers,

People with AMD chips shouldn't be allowed to make fun of people who are having issues with their cars! How much HP did AMD rate your car at BTW? 300? :nana:

@Mihnea, its ok this is just a mate of mine taking the piss out of me as my car is soo slow at the moment. I will get him back!!

Another friend of mine suggested that the blades of the turbo may have been damaged causing boost to go past the seal after a certain point. He had this on a RS turbo escort

I will give SteveH a ring and see if I can borrow his ECU as it isn't in use!

Yeah, might happen in a BS Dorf but I can't believe it did on yours, we're far from using the turbo at its limits now so I just can't imagine that...

Revs well! Until boost rises. Then it goes pear shaped.
When stood still it picks up well and revs fine. Accel. in first gear is OK. as the boost doesn't go up to high.

@Mihnea, txt SteveH and he said that i could borrow his ECU for testing. If that doesn't cure it then i could strip his car down and just try everything out.

It was just an idea, wondered if exhaust had collapsed internally or cat(s) gone pear shaped and blocking system causing back pressure and strangling engine. We see it quite a lot with cat cars. Just a suggestion, might be worth checking. let me know........

                        I wish
I have no cats and a free flowing exhaust with no kinks or anything. Had it on ramp tonight checking the flywheel teeth, used as pick up for engine speed pick up. thought i may have damaged it when doing the gearbox job the other day, but it was ok after this for a while!!

Exhaust don't have to be kinked, baffles in silencers can corrode and collapse sometimes but if it's free flowing it's obvious your system is ok. Might be worth getting your codes read and see if they show any faults, check bell housing to block seating and make sure no wires were trapped in process. All the care in the world can sometimes not be enough! I know it's happened to me in the past! Catch you tomorrow, time for ZZZZZ's.
