Hmmmmm, rev's freely when stationary until boost rises. checked your hoses for air leaks/splits or is intake hose between air box and turbo collapsing? Don't know what else to suggest. I know S2 setup is different but we have had a run of MAF sensors playing up on Audi/VW/FORD and VAUXHALL Turbo Diesels ( Bosch unit ) Plug diag in and no fault but car is gutless, replace MAF sensor unit and Whoosh off they go again. Did a Vectra TD today.
Hope some of this has been of use, let me know the outcome.

As I said before, if it were a boost leak causing the ECU to shut off the fuel pump relay, then this would always induce a "max boost exceeded" type of fault code, which Tom doesn't have and which he also can't have after a second look at his chips. So it's really puzzling, I even wonder if it's not his ECU itself playing tricks on him....

Normally you take the piss out of the old tank, maybe you realise that once its up and running you ought to be scared. Or maybe its because you want me to fit your Jabbasport IHI conversion

One last thought before I give up and bang my head against a brick wall in frustration!!!!
You said car was running fine before and just after doing your gearbox...... this leads me to believe that something has been stretched or strained whilst doing the gearbox job and has given up. I cant think of any wires around front of engine that can get stretched, check sensor wires around back of head under throttle body. The only thing at the front that I could think would get stretched is the Turbo Hoses to and from the intercooler.
Good luck in your quest to cure this problem, hope it's not the holy grail!!

I have come to several conclusions after a few thinking beers tonight. Its either......
a) ECU
b) MAF being stupid
c) Dare I say it, Turbo.
d) Coil
Now the last option is a possiblility as I dont know how many Kv's a good coil should kick out. I have had the car on the Crypton and the max output from the coil, eg removing plug lead and shorting it to earth with a large gap until it doesn't jump it, is about 25Kv. Now to me that doesn't sound a great deal, but I have nothing to compare that to.
I could remove the turbo and send it off to be inspected and tested. My local helicopter making factory has the ability to do this for around 50 quid!!
I have arranged with SteveH to go to his house this w/end and borrow some bits. I will find this fault. I may have to strip the whole lot out and test every wire and every component, but I will find it.
