It not the oil pressure at idle that is important really, its more the pressure at increased engine speeds, ie 2000 rpm and above. Using Total 5/40 FS, I get nearly 5 bar this time of year after a good run at 2000rpm. During the summer after trackdays I was getting about 3.5bar at 2000 rpm. Not bad, oil temp was about 100-120!! and considering its done nearly 150k miles!!

Oil pressure at high RPM's, 2kRPM etc pressure picks up, but at idle seems v low... mine also reaches the 5bar mark by around 2500-3000 RPM i think off the top of my head...

I wouldn't worry too much about it then. I suspect the tappets are either worn, need taking apart and cleaning or replacing.

If it's over 1bar at idle you can have your good night sleep.

WOW- cheers for all the replies my oil pressure when hot sits at about 1.2-1.3bar but at 2000 rpm it is about 4 bar and then goes up to 5 by 2500. Thats also a pitty as i have only not long ago had my timing belt done . Can the pressure relief valve be removed from underneath the car or is this an easy job.
                    Thanks for the replies

Cheers, will do that at the weekend. Another thing is when i first start the car up on a morning and after it has been stood at work all day i get a noise which sounds either like a belt or a dry bearing for a split second then all is ok, will spray the belts with water to quieten them at start up to see if it is them.

Knocking sound? I bet it's a worn valve lifter. They usually last for about 200-250k km.

Its not a Knocking sound more of a quick screech, but only for a split second after cranking over when it first bursts into life
                            Hope its nothing serious

                              Thats a loose alt. belt.
I think the oil pressure on your car is fine, mine is the same and I get no tappet noises. I have had them aprt and cleaned them out when I did the head gasket job.

Right, i have done a bit of live testing of the oil pressures and found something i have never noticed before. If i free rev the engine, the oil pressure stays put and by 2500rpm i have about 5 bar on the pressure gauge, but if i boot it on a road it goes up to 5 bar at about 2500 rpm then drops down as i go through the revs getting really low (2 bar)as i approach 6k revs, i am assuming this is not good, can enyone give me some advise, my turbo is not in the best nick and will be looking at replacing within the next year.
                                Cheers
