£45 for a new fuel pump from german and swedish bout half an hour to fit,
6 speed will fit a 3b/7a fly wheel, they have a spacer for a dual mass flywheel,
cost bout £120 to get your propshaft shortened by 25mm
you need the bigger drive shafts for the front £30 ish each off sal
dont worry about the rear diff its the same ratio
make sure you get the gear linkage as they are a **** to find
new clutch kit £120
gearbox usally around £370 - £430 ish
new master and slave cylinder £160 from vagparts (def need to do these!!!)
if you do it while the engine is out you can do it using a trolley jack, if not you need a ramp.
so if you do all the work yourself your looking at about £900

think you can use the tdi bottom end to get compression down but then you need to get the 7a head machined for the water manifold the list goes on and on
like everyone says by an s2 thats the way im going for now
www.034efi.com do a compression dropping head gasket that brings a 7A down to the same CR as an AAN so you could still use his bottom end

I did the conversion on my coupe and all I can say is its a lot of work and alot of headachs so far but since I live in the US I didn't have a choice to buy an S2 so its well worth it for me.
The 6 speed will fit the 3B and unless your coupes came with a different 5 speed than ours the top end of the 6 speed is higher. With my 5 speed I was at rev limiter around 150mph and with the DSY 6 speed it should be more like 180mph.
You can use the 2.3 block but need to add a copper thick head gasket to lower the CR. There are a few guys in the US doing this. The other alternative is to us the NG block and you 20V head, this will result in the right CR and makes for a powerful combo depending on how you set it up. If your not registered on the motorgeek.com site its a good one for these projects and they will save you lots of time since so many people are in the process of conversions. Good luck with it!

IndeedOriginally posted by Mikes2I've done about 100 laps of the 'ring in an S2 and I would advise setting aside another £500 for your brake upgrade 'cos you'll need it.

For the 7A block you could use the Copper Gasket (requires the block O ringing) with their JE piston set

I think a complete engine is on the cards from the looks sound and sheer complexity of matching all the right parts just to get the right compression!!!!!
NEw Problem Guys. What would cause the rear brakes to use the outside of the disc only and just a small 5mm groove of the rear of the disc (inside) it has done it on both. I thought it was just the pads squeeling as they seem new.
DOH
ALready got the replacement parts. Just need to know what would cause it so I can rectify the situation Sirs.

The cause? it's designed in (ie. a flaw in VAG thinking). the solution, throw the original calipers away and put some proper ones on. The more i'm thinking about this whole bloody mechanical handbrake lark, the more inclined i am to just throw the whole idea away and put a master cylinder on the back of the handbrake. I'm going to take a look as to how much room is under the centre console when i get back. I've had enough ******ing about in mechanical caliper parts catalogues. I DID find one that was prfect for the job. It's the one from the back of a Ferrari F40, you can imagine the cost. Not funny at all. I'm going the hydraulic route and before anyone says anything i ran hydraulic for over 20 years on the EscortsJust need to know what would cause it so I can rectify the situation Sirs.

Guys you know when things go from bad to worse in your mind!!!
Well sorted the brakes out now no probs adjusted the handbrake cable which may have been a slight cause, everything working fine now.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I took the car for a drive I noticed that when I got back there is a small knocking noise coming from the engine bay!!
Listened all I could and cannot really decifer where from other than the sound is stronger on the right hand side (as you face it) of the engine (same side as water inlet).
Any ideas.
I cannot hear it when revving the engine due to the noise from the engine but on come down to idle it does appear to be slightly louder till idle.
My first thoughts are valve clearance!!!
Any other bids in the great scheme of engines?
Any way back to the ring!
Next year about september time depending on my work rota (I work nights so I get one week off in every six - BONUS for working on the car EH!).
I will keep you posted
P.S. any one seen the brake convesrion at https://www.s2-audi.co.uk/tech_artic...ke_upgrade.htm
Hope that link works, anyone who has done this please let me know
By the way £500 is that for all 4 callipers????
(not very good at this how do you put an original quote in like you guys keep doing?)
Cheers and Happy Hunting.
