    Supercharged

Anyone ever supercharged a 7A coupe?

I mean properly by the way not one of those electric jobbies.

I have seen a totaled 220 Kompressor and thinking on nicking the supercharger and fitting it to my coupe.

Would I need to lower the compression ratio for this or not?

    Any pointers would help.

P.S. Anyone who has read should it stay or should it go, I am keeping it the head gasket has gone so as I am stripping the engine down I may as well tinker to get more oomph while I'm there eh!

I haven't seen a 2.3 supercharged but one of the guys on Audifans has supercharged his 2.6 coupe. It's a nice job. Why don't you post/PM him and have a chat. Sure he'll be glad to help

          Ohhh, nice Rootes blower.
This is not a simple job. It would be best if you lower the CR. It would be quite impressive if done propery.

i had my frst coupe supercharged but it was a 10 valve engine
thats the supercharger i used. it's an autorotor / opcon 2089 it was able to boost up to 1bar with 2,3l configuration w/o over rewing it.

            and it sounded wery nice

Si's car is a Coupe quattro 2.8 V6 and he has used a ME45 supercharger from the Mini Cooper. The pic Mark shows is of the "PES" kit fitted to the later 24/30v V6's that hails from the states. IIRC he has used this as an inspiration to build his own as no kit exists for the 12v V6 engine.
He hasn't lowered the compression ratio, as he doesn't plan on it running wild boost, something along the lines of 7psi.
Read all about the build here.

                Cheers MAtey.

This has given me some food for thought and made the whole thing look like it is in my price range. He really does know what he is doing doesn't he.

Might take me some time but as I have a budget of 1K to sort the engine probs out while it is stripped I may as well add a little kick to it too.

Is there anywhere I can fire a load of questions at people who know what they are talking about when it comes to these things (i.e. piggy back ecu, belt and pulley etc)

                Cheers

                  Cool

Nice to see one of my Flanges used in something actually up and running

Got nice new Alloy fabricated inlets arriving next week as well for anyone thinking of doing a conversion

                    Hi dom,

you charging your car too then?

I'm still in the process of aquiring bits and it may take some time. I am going to do a complete rebuild and take the compression right down so I can crank up the boost a bit.

If anyone knows of them anywhere I am looking for either an Eaton M62/65 or a nice big M92/95 roots charger.

Before poeple jump I know the 95 is a big charger deasigned for larger engines but if I can make the sums work what the hell and the low down torque will be nice

                      Dont drop the compression

Its not a turbo you are not searching for high boost with a Roots type charger, boost just shows up a restriction elsewhere in the system, you are looking for greater volume of air not pressure

Sorry, pet hate of mine..... everyone treats supercharging and turbocharging the same and they are not

Run a normal Compression ratio, match the charger to the engine size, tune conventionally with big valves and decent porting, free flow inlet and exhaust systems. and enjoy superb grunt off idle

OK you wont have the same high HP numbers as some on here but you`ll beat them while they are waiting for the Turbo to spool up

You could have had my IHI Lysholm charger as fitted to C55 AMG Mercs
Just parcelled it up and sent it off to Portugal though !!!

The Lysholm is a much more efficient design than the Eaton and thats the one to go for but failing that keep an eye out for an M62, the M90 is too big and you are just wasting power driving the thing

I wish I could take the credit but I cant, I design the stuff and I have an Excellent Fabricator

When I manage to get my hands on an M62 I'm guessing your the man to come and see for a couple of bits and bobs. Cool job on the mini charger. Looks mint. How long till you do an intercooler then?
