    A few nasty questions

OK was woundering for a while if they needed to be asked but what a heck , my mechanic just went to the ireland for job . And i'm stuck on my own .....

Well new engine was rebuilt like 700km ago and few bad things happened :

    a) After rebuilt i get oil pressure warning all the way. What can couse this ? Oil is up to the level. Altrought I have some leek from oil cooler hoses and oil filter. Could this be why it's flashing ?

    b) Well for first 200km engine run as a phucking animal. Very powerfull , kicked all the way till redline and stayed there like 6000RPM then 7000 , then again 6000 and s.o. But now it's not boosting like a turbo car , more like a natural car , no kicking . Altrought going very hard. What can be the problem ? Where should I look ?

    c) Well the front engine bushing lived for like 2 days , then dissapeared , and the DahlBack IM sometimes hit a bonnet a little , is this really bad ? Could that couse slow accell ?

    d) When I slowly accel in 2nd 3rd or sometimes 4th gear from 2000RPM till about 2400-2450 sometimes on 240X RPM engine feeles like hit something, then suddely drop to 2000RPM and then to 2500 and accel the normal way. If I would be more mechanical minded I would say that i hit valves with piston , but this isn't possible right ?

My Setup is stock ECU , full RS2 engine setup with DahlBack 8000RPM cams(dunno the spec) , DahlBack IM. The Block is absolutly new , 0km with new pistons rings , bearings and rods.

    Please advice
    Vadim.

did you run your engine in after the rebuild ? you have been redlining it after just 700 km's you are brave mate . if your engine is making ticking noise ( hydrolic tappets ) then you have no oil pressure stop driving it and get it seen to .

Chances are that the two wires on the oil pressure sender are reversed. What does your oil pressure gauge read? When you turn the key to 'on' (don't start engine) does the gauge go past 5 bar? If so, this is a good indication the wires are reversed.

I double that what Ben said.

And running stock ecu with those changes is a really bad idea.

And you probably have leaks now if the front mount failed.

My best advice is to go and find someone who knows something about turbocharged cars and ask him if he would please have a look at it. If you have been driving it like "an animal" without a bedding in period, i would start saving for new pistons and bearings now. NOBODY drives a car with the oil warning light flashing. Not unless they have money to burn.
Just because it has oil on the dipstick it doesn't mean it is going everywhere else in the car, like the Turbo for instance!

              :-)

"did you run your engine in after the rebuild ? you have been redlining it after just 700 km's you are brave mate . if your engine is making ticking noise ( hydrolic tappets ) then you have no oil pressure stop driving it and get it seen to ."

I never seen and heard any Audi that didn't had ticking noise(when tappets ticks). Yes it does have a little sound.

"Chances are that the two wires on the oil pressure sender are reversed. What does your oil pressure gauge read? When you turn the key to 'on' (don't start engine) does the gauge go past 5 bar? If so, this is a good indication the wires are reversed."

Yes it shows abnormal reading , jump all the way. Probably the wiring.

              ---------

And about reving it after rebuilt , well i wanted to know if it really feels good , you know the feeling . Ehhhh, I'm gonna Open the engine in 2 weeks , will see gone wrong. It's just strange it doesn't kick any more :/.

What worry me the most is the "d)" option. Can't really explain , it begun to happen after first run. So it's not my abuse.

Anyone can show me where is pressure wires located ? P.S. I have aux gauges now unplugged , should it affect autocheck in any way ?

              P.S.S. New pistons isn't a problem really , i have a spare set.

If the enigine is new like you say. Then I think the engine has severe damage after revving it like that. Temperatures go Buzurk on an engine that hasn't had a break in period. Bearing damage, burnt rings and maybe pistons can be the result and what not!
Then theres the oil pressure thing. What kind of oil have you put in there? Is it castrol RS10W60? If so the engine will never break in. The tapping noise only comes when oil pressure is low, or oil level is low..... Do an oilpressure check by removing the oil filter and cranck the engine over. (without starting it) if oil comes pooring out then your pump at least works.
                After that open it asap.

                  Yes I've put RS10w60.

Hi Jamil, good, how's you? Did you get the coilovers finished?

Sweeper, get someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at it.

                      read this article:

Its a controversial method to break in an engine... (not how I did mine)
And its an interesting read also. But they are right on the oils. A new engine needs to mate with all the surfaces. After honing the engine, the bore acts like a file. It scrapes of the rings and if seriously revved the opistons aswell. The "high/sharp spots" need to be grind of first by the rings. They are bedding in then. For that use you need a non-synthetic oil. Castrol RS is a good oil, and that is the whole thing. It lubes to good to have the rings set/bed in properly. The best oil for that is mineral oil. I used Motul mineral oil. the first 1500 km's or so. After that I used Motul full synthetic oil.

3 more words on break- in:
                      NO SYNTHETIC OIL !!

Use Valvoline, Halvoline, or similar 10 w 40 Petroleum Car Oil for at least
2 full days of hard racing or 1,500 miles of street riding / driving.
After that use your favorite brand of oil.

Graham: The best part is. We have NONE good mechanics here, none , nana , niht. There are few , but you are risking of missing some parts in engine , or get used instead of your new ones !

Jeffer: Time to open the engine again, doh !

                          limp mode

Hi vadim remember I told you about my oil pump, well i,m not saying thats the problem but the symptoms you mention are very much the same whith mine it was the oil return valve sticking an finally seizeing open hence no oil preasure and also I think the ECU would go into limp mode if it detected low oil preasure im no exspert but this all happend to me and iam still counting the cost,It would only take a small fragment of metal to cause the return valve to stick you can check this with the engine in ,its the large brass 22mm nut bottom left hand corner of the oil pump inside are a spring and a plunger check if its free and check for any scratches on the sides . Buy the way have you checked with the post yet still nothing here yet

hi graham yes i finished the coilovers (stainless of course) but i'm now waiting for the right collars from tim he got me some but they were wrong size . did you see my shorty on the forum (quattro pics) over the weekend ? and to sweeper you must never rev your car past 3000 revs for at least 800 to 1000 miles and you must always use normal mineral oil in that period .then you change your oil to synthetic and rev it to what ever you like within reason .
