well that's just great.i thought i'd go to work in my s2.two miles from work it decides to go onto four pots then three.i've just done the cambelt too ,but i'm hoping it's the dizzy drive i really don't won't to have to take the head off.ah well here i go.
Phil I've got one that I've not got round to installing yet. How many miles has yours done?
126000.i've got one sorted now cheers mate.or should i be greedy and have two? :mischeif:it snapped two teeth of in one go(i presume).because it was going really well beforehand.
*****.i've installed the drive gear now and it starts ok,but after a few seconds it runs rough as a badgers ****.it's as if it starts up with a lot of advance and once it backs off thats when it runs crap.i lined up the flywheel timing mark and the hall sender line is now slightly off the line on the distibutor body.thats with the chisel mark i made on the body to head before dismantling lined up.WTF?????i've tried it a tooth anticlockwise.naaa.and a tooth clockwise.one thing i did notice in the instructions it said something about using the larger hole for the pin.but looking at it,the holes in the drive gear are both below a tooth, and they're the same size.so i'll try it with the gear turned 180 degrees on the shaft.any other ideas anyone?
Hi Phil, sorry to hear your having probs mate. I'm sure you've probably tried but will it all line-up when set to the 'book' procedure, i.e. setting the flywheel marks, cam pulley marks and dizzy body to rotor arm marks, disregarding any previous setting?
The dist. may lie in a slightly different rotational position than before but as long as the rotor arm points in generally the same direction as before, the dizzy body can be turned to align the marks.
Other than that the gear may need to be, as you say, turned 180 deg.
Certainly haven't heard of probs fitting the gears previously.
Or maybe something has been disturbed, like the h.t. leads or a connection somewhere?

thanks mate.i'll go over everthing again, checking the leads keep firing once it starts running rough.then i'll turn it 180.i'll let you know.might be a while now though, she's about to drop our second kid.there's always something to stop me working on my cars.
