Need some advice my temp guage on my 90 quattro sport, sits just over 50oC when driving but when i stop it creeps pretty fast upto 90oC but as soon as i start driving again it falls to 50oC. Now i've looked through forums and it seems to be pointing to the multi function sensor as i dont believe a thermostat can do this, its either stuck open meaning car takes age to heat or stuck shut meaning car overheats but not keeping it low when moving and creeping up when stopped. any help much apprectiated. Thanks

it started as soon as i got in it i think cos got upto bout 15miles away and noticed it, the oil temp guage aint working either and it creaks/groans when i turn wheel but think may just be power steering belt that needs tightened fingers crossed. But dont really bother me gives me something to fiddle with lol.

I got thermostat from euro car parts for just over a tenner, if you go online to eurocarparts.com they can deliver but costs more luckily my nearest store was only few miles away from my work, failing that any motor factor will usually be able to get you thermostat at similar price or cheaper just matter of phoning round. The thermostat is tucked down left handside of engine block (if sitting in car) bit of a pain to get to but not hard job, done it on last car. Going to fit new 1 tomorrow along with new power steering belt and new alternator belt for good measure as im getting bit of squealing and they look a bit ropey so might as well. Also fitting set of 15inch tsw alloys got em for 80 quid ofa mate so they're tidier than the standard one's on it the now so will do til i get my new shiny good alloys start of next year hopefully. hope it helped you a bit
