Since driving my avant i've noticed blue smoke on start up then it clears after the engines warm, if i give it some teddy accelerating there a puff of bluish/grey smoke when i change gear but none when i'm accelerating or on boost.
i think it could be the turbo but i'm not sure Help
poss turbo seals weeping will gradually get worse then it will dump a **** load of oil straight into your engine and aqualock it,
whip your pipes off your turbo and see if theres and oil in the intake or exit side,
mine had a hint of smoke when i put my 3" zaust on as the was less back pressure so there was more pressure on the seals, (they probably wouldnt of lasted much longer anyway with a standard zaust)
cheers

I had a split breather pipe which caused this too - I thought I'd shafted the turbo at a track day as I was having the same oil puffs you describe. Check the little hose that runs alongside the main air intake pipe in to the throttle body for any signs of wear or seepage.
Good luck!
Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
well i pulled off the hose from the turbo to check the shaft play guess what the
thing moves about half a mm in & out , same up & down not sure if you should be able to do this , i checked the the turbo hoses and theres a s*^t load of oil in them. it looks like i need to change the turbo now so i'll be fitting my K26/GT35
which i've had for a while, will this be ok if i take it easy until i get a remap as i don't
want run a turbo that leaks lots of oil
Can't really anser your question regards the remap. I'd have thought it would be ok for a short while taking it easy?
I was getting a little smoke on gearchange on the track at Combe last July apparently. The engine's in bits now an the turbo is A-OK... looks like it could've been valve stem oil seals.
