Never thought to check this before..........

ABY S2 coupe. Elusive running problems reported in various threads over the last 3 years. Last night I was re checking the DV with my Mityvac (again). Holding vacuum fine. Removed DV from big hoses - no movement on valve. WTF ! Disconnected DV - still holding Vacuum. The metal pipe behind the cam belt is blocked.! Unable to clear it with wire from the top or air pressure from the other end ( 10 bar applied with my bicycle track pump ). Connected IM to DV direct using new piping....different car. I never thought to check this before.... have you?? Sanity slowly being restored......

Say what - that is a doozy of a fault. That could drive you nuts alright... Excellent find. I think I blew air thru that metal link pipe on mine the first time I found it - just to confirm it went to the TBV.

But OMG doesn't it just show how the stupidest little thing can be overlooked !

    Keep taking the medication !

Tell me about it Paul !!...seems so bloody obvious now...check DV off car...fine...check vacuum held once reconnected on car....(perfect).

Can't wait to get out later and drive some more.

With no boost reaching the small hose connection the DV was obviously opening under boost and not closing under lift off, I am praying there has been no damage caused to the turbo... time for another pill...

Yeah it would drive a bit weird like that. If you never heard turbo stall noises on lift-off then I suggest you are probably ok. Great find - will have to add that to the almanac of boost related problems.
