That drilled part is where the thread to screw down the Wastegate spring is, by screwing it down i believe you gain greater mechanical boost, its not something to be tampered with unless you know what you're doing.

I would also def pressure test your car, thats the first thing i would have done, even before cleaning the MAF etc.

You can try turning the bolt a little out. 1 or 2 turns maybe enough.

Probably they drilled the hole to turn the bolt in, to make the turbo pressure higher. As this is regulated by the ECU this makes no sense.

Also my advise will be; try screwing de bolt al little back.

If you want to set it back to the factory standard, you have to disconnect the WGFV connector. The boost hould be around 0,4 bar then.

I solved my overboost problem by turning de bolt a little back.

Cleaning the Wastegate Frequency Valve may also help solving the problem.

              Erm,
Common problem with S2's the more I talk to people.
Mine can be the same but only some times !!!
I have checked for boost leak, no.
              Changes WGFV.
Changed dump valve (only because I was changing WGFV and it's in the same area and can't hurt !)
Changed hall sender (on the way out anyway as sometines wouldn't start)
Changed pluds & oil & filter.
              Cleaned MAF.
Changed MAF to known OK one !
              Pulled codes and checked faults.
Anyway it hasn't happened for ages and now I have posted this you can bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow the problem will pop it's ugly head up !
Does anybody know the REAL cause ???
              Regards,
              Paul.

it was a quite obvious split in a hose...
