@greg - would it be possible to construct some sort of bracket/adapter for the S2 crossmember, such that the RS2 intercooler could be used ?

Or is there simply not enough clearance ?

I've never had the pleasure of eyeballing the RS2 intercooler and standard S2 X-member at the same time so it got me wondering. Its just that most folk (me included) can't weld to save their live - so a bolt on bracket would be a real treat - especially when you see the price of RS2 X-member !!!!

              @Paul: get a 3B x-member from a breaker's and have a shop weld the bracket onto it

                Paul,

It is posssible to use a long bolt with three nuts.
I did this with mine because time was running out when I was putting it all together, I think I had just a day or two before our rolling road session in July, it was a mad rush, and I could not get hold of a welder in time.

Basically I just drilled a hole into the crossmember and locked the long bolt into place and attached the IC bracket to the other end and locked that into place with two nuts. Sorry if this sounds a bit vague, I have no pics of it as I was not too proud of that bit of 'creative engineering' Although having said that it is solid and has held perfectly till now, its just not pretty.

Although given more time I would have done it 'properly' with a welder like Greg or Marco have. I'll keep mine the way it is for now as I should hopefully be changing the IC for a much bigger one early next year, so not much point and too much other stuff to do as well.

                Mark.

P.S. I'm sure that there a plenty of people here, not too far from you that could help you with the welding.

                  Paul,

I did orginally look at just making a bracket that would attach on the 3 bolts where the cross member fits to the car. It shouldnt be too difficult to do that with a straight bar bent to fit and a few holes drilled.

You do have to chop off the old mount for the S2 IC though, all i did was angle grind the old one of then used that as the basis to build the bracket since it has the captive nuts etc all in the right place, all beit at a different angle to standard S2 IC. Took a few hours to do when you take into account waiting for paint to dry etc too.

                      Nice job!!

Is RS2 IC plus top RS2 crossmember a direct bolt on in a coupe ABY?

Doug has the RS2 cross member and intercooler on his car, all he had to do on that was cut a small notch in the oil cooler duct. Similar to mine just a bit smaller since it has the proper bracket on it.

                        see this thread

there is a pic of dougs silver RS2 crossmember on there.

I made a custom SS bracket for mine. uses the x member bolt holes as i didnt want to risk damaging the pipe inside the x member by welding as it is very thin.

Did you have to cut a small section out of the bumper?? I know i did.

Nope, not cutting of the bumper was needed. Was careful not to use too much heat because of the proximity of the internal pipe. All seems fine at the moment anyhow
