    K&N sux

Yes I bought the K&N replacement element for my Audi S2 ABY engine for about $60, I was very happy, but as a cientific that im I start to do test againts this thing

So I bought a New original paper element (same part# as RS2), then I mesuare the power inderictly by 3 forms:

    a) Maximun peaks flows in My Super-AFC
    b) With a voltimeter conected to the mass flow meter, i measure the out signal
    c) G-tech pro with dataloggin

    results: unsatisfactory!!!!!

with a test, i get maximun peaks with the original filter
with b test, I get maximiun rated currents with the original
with c test, I get a 10 hp difference in Hp to the wheels against K&N, even with my poor Hp (330hp), so:

I would like to realise more power, so its gonna be even more the difference, cause proportionly it will restrict more........... ufff

Second this stuff doesnt clean the air as our original paper element, so even if the K&N give me any Hp it doesnt worth..........

I would like to check this in a Dyno, but every dyno at my city have just only 2wd option............. so damn!!!!!

Im sure that it doenst worth this $60 at all............
    Cheeers

PD: K&N element new in sell, not joking............

I'm probably going to replace the one with my dahlback kit at some point too.

Any recommendations for a better dry filtration system, rather than a foam/oil affair?

      I'm Still running standard...

I don't fancy a dirty maf, or potentially letting crud fly though my engine and turbo....

Maybe this is wrong, but maybe you should drive a little around with the new filter so the Pores will open, and it will drive better then!

I think if you regularly and properly oil the K&N filter then it will keep dust and crud out. I'm sure there is a long thread on this forum about the pros and cons. I used to have a dahlback with K&N, but i got fed up with the noise. RS2 airbox and oem paper filter is now on and installed.

I note in the etka that the Oem Filters in the ABY and the ADU are the same, the good thing about this filters its the cool air induction............. I gonna mantain this filter until BIG changes in the engine........ then I would design some thing to get cool air also.

The problem with this car its the space in the engine bay, so if you use a Big turbo, you can be frustrated trying to place the maf and the filter............ I note very good optios in this forum.......... throw some pictures of some guys in their projects.......

Also, the other Big restriction came from the close curve of the inlet hose of the Turbo, it bring a lot of lag......... In a Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo 1994, we taste before and after the removal of these kind hose......... and there significant power looses there........... the eclipse use a similar situation to collect air, with a close curve before the turbo............ thats why in USA they change inmidatly that hose. Check Check............ its the only way.

Big boys roll around with no filter J/K but its the best way for max hp in drag racing. With the k&n if you change the oil more regulary i think you will be ok.

i've used a k&n cone filter for over 3 years without a single issue, no dirty maf no running issues etc and i have never oiled it as they are good for 50-100,000 miles in their out the box state.

In the URQ circle K&N isn't a great favourite, Phil Payne did a test a few years ago now, first using a K&N and then wiping out the throttle body with a white paper tissue which came out pretty dirty, next he tried the oem paper filter and did the same wipe test, the paper towel this time was clean. Horses for courses really, i have used K&N in the past but don't anymore.

because of my bad english I don't think I understand which filter gave more HP... anyone want to help me "translate"?

BTW: don't the RS2 box fit under the coupe 3b bonnet? Fittet one today, and it seems to hit the bonnet..

I agree with the thread title! K&N's didn’t work for me in my ABY . Slight increase in tone but constantly a dirty MAF!!! And lets too much **** through for me. Intake pipes lined with a fine grit. They are supposed to be ready to roll from the box which is what I did with mine. I persevered for 500 miles and still the grit was present and the MAF was dirty so out it came and OE filter went in.
Money is everything! Second to Power of course!!! But money breeds power??
