    ECU swopping

    Hello!

OK, what is needed to swap immob ecus between vehicles. Lets say hypothetically I wished to sell an ecu and wanted to prove to the buyer that it functioned correctly or at least worked! Apart from the physical swapping, would it need to be recoded by vagcom?
    Thanks!

I have an RS2 ECU and when I have bolted all my RS2 bits onto the car I intend to plug this in.
    Will it work
    I have an ABY.

It will work with original key and immobilizer box from that ECU. If it was with immobilizer. Or you will need just cut that stupid thing out from ecu (thieves crack them in miliseconds, but normal ppl, like owners of the car usually feel PITA due to these "factory security systems").

If you don't want to do something drastic, you need to adapt your own keys to ECU.

I think I can answer this. Get the p/n off both ECUs. If you have an non immo car (early one) and an non immo RS2 ecu then at least it should work, subject to all the different components. If you have a non immo vehicle and a immo ecu then no(tried that before). If you have an immo car and an immo ecu - that should also be no!
However I stand to be corrected

If its an 8A0 907 551C its an immo version! Looks as though its the 94 model years when immo was introduced.

                As above! Hence the enquiry!

No mate! Just this one(I hope). The others were supposedly un-immoed

That's obviously NOT the case, cos I discovered yesterday that an immo car will happily start with a non-immo ECU.

                        Mmm..
                        Yep that makes sense.
So we know that a immo car will work with non immo ecu.
A non immo car will not work with a immo ecu.
So back to my original query!

I have the answers to this but I don't like discussing security info about ECUs on the forum for obvious reasons. YOu can send me a PM if you like more info (which I wouldn't provide unless I had established some trust with folk). Cheers, Paul

                            Ok Paul will do!
Although in principle I can't see whats wrong with a simple answer. We have established through trial and error and indeed info you have posted previously some of the permutations.
The answer will certaintly save a lot of head scratching.
So if I simplify the question to - Can immo ecus be swapped between immo cars without problems? - Is that answerable?
                            Thanks!

There is no problem there that I am aware of.
