rebuilt 3b engine, custom EM+turbo - how much boost?

My 3b engine project is starting to get ready and the car will be mapped next week.
Engine has been completely overhauled, including:
    - New main & rod (RS2) bearings
    - RS2 headgasget
    - Honed bores, new piston rings
    - Workshop-rebuilt cylinder head (early AAN head, dizzy version)

Engine will be fitted with motec m800 ecu, custom tubular EM, and holset HX40 54/60 turbo.
How much max. boost should I run?
What kind of power/torque figures may be (safely) achieved with this setup? engine will be running stock rods and pistons and I would not like to blow the rods out of the block in the first 1000km

You can safely run up too 400 Bhp with stock pistons and rods. As far as boost, that depends on your turbo, so i will sugest that you put your car on dyno and tune the engine. Once on dyno you or whoever tunes the car will able to decide how much boost is necesary in order to get to 400 Bhp mark.

Yes, the car will be mapped on dyno. How aggressively should the boost (torque) be restricted on low rpm (<3500) to keep the stock rods happy?

Don't get too close to 550-600NM or you will bend your rods. HP isn't an issue as it will be at higher revs

After going thru all that time and effort to take it out and rebuild it all, why did you choose not to do the rods?

Esp as you have changed so much other stuff.

Well, I'm running kinda short on budget and all the quality rods I've managed to find (Arrow, custom-made) cost a fortune (approx. €1000 - 1300).. so I decided to stick to the stock rods at this time as I need to get the car running. Someday when I'll be doing my 'Stage2' build the rods will definitely be on my to-do list.

Yes.. ugly twins, definitely. I'll have to make sure the engine will be kept within (supposed) safe limits until I get the rods done..
