On the ABY engine - anybody done that without removing main radiator and all the other crap thats in the way ?
Just looking for any tips before I tackle this little task (that will doubtelss turn into an epilogue of Titanic proportions and require a new sunroof to be fitted along the way).
Paul, for what its worth you cannot reach it without removing the radiator and/or the power steering pump on mine.
I was supposed to get this done a while back along with the cambelt and new water pump, thermostat etc etc but the bumper was siezed solid so didn't get it done. I need mine down soon as it is weeping quite a bit through the sender now.
Damn - I was afraid of that... Minssy's car has a leak here as well. Haven't checked ETKA yet to see if there is a separate oil seal or if its built into oil sender.
I really don't want to remove the radiator and fan assembly for this. I'm losing the will to live cos there is no obvious alternative
I have a feeling there is a washer on mine - will check and post up a piccie later if it helps. From memory the hex for the spanner to grip on is infront of the sender itself making it a definate no no without something being removed I think i bought my sender off Martyn in August last year and its still not fitted yet!!!!!
Yep - pretty sure the bigassed main rad has to come out...
@Dave - I may need to beg your new sender off you for Minnsy's car - will order another from Martyn of course which can be sent to you in a week or so ?????? What say ye ?
P.S. How easy is it to remove the radiator on an a/c equipped car? it looks like a nightmare job but I would like to try and remove mine and flush it fully and also if possible reverse flush the block to rid it of years of crap and sludge.
Brilliant - what a hoot taking that radiator out last night. Actually wasn't quite as horrible as I expected, but there's a fair few fiddly screws on the ducting which take some patience. Have photos and hope to post a write up soon which should help you. Doubt the 3B is much different in this area.
Definitely DON'T need to remove PAS pump, but you do have to separate the low pressure hose from the PAS cooler so be prepared with a can to collect the precious green stuff.
Access to thermostat, water rail, and two link hoses is great - also to the oil senders. Bottom one is leaking profusely.
Love is 'ripping an S2 apart with your own hands' nothing in life comes anywhere near it :-), well... apart from Toms girlfriend kissing Gill's in public
