    MTM wastegate spring question.

Since we never got many MTM parts for the 20v's over here in the U.S., I thought I'd ask you guys about my spring (I even got it off ebay.co.uk).
This is what it looks like:

Does anyone know any information on this spring? I installed it in my car last night, and with careful modulation of the gas pedal (read: didn't wan to t blow my motor) it build boost VERY easily, almost seemingly too easy. I didn't go more than 1/2 throttle as it seems the boost would keep goign up.

On a side note, the spring that came out of my car was already a stiff spring, although, not as stiff *** the MTM. The spring that was in there already is a stock 10vT spring, off a 5000/200 turbo. It also seems 034 Motorsport is selling them as a stiff WG spring for 20v'ers. So soem of you may buy them as an upgrade?

Is it a good change for the RS2 with chip?

Mihnea, could you or someone else that knows more about it help here?

Well after a couple of days with the spring, the car does not over boost, but the boost comes on WAY sooner. I wonder if my WGFV was bad, and not this spring is compensating for it? I'm going to try the old spring an new WGFV this weekend to see what ht results are. I just can't believe only this spring has made as much of a difference as I feel.

The larger wastegate spring will reduce wastegate creep to a minimum, that's why your boost is coming in harder and lower down the revs. You'll never want to put a standard one back in now!

Is that a good thing Steve?

Not being sarcastic, it's a genuine question. Other threads I've read (I think, I'm a bit under the old red wine influence here) seem to frown upon messing with WG springs.

Yes, I understand that's the theory behind the stiffer spring. But I have been told by a few that the WGFV should still be the main control over the boost, so that if I see a difference then my WGFV must be going or is bad. Can you guide me here?

I think it's if the car isn't mapped for a stiffer spring, it may not run correctly.
If not, where do I get a stiffer spring? Mihnea?

The tuners on the forum are the best people to answer this question. I'd guess that as long as the WGFV is still able to modulate boost are retain it within safe levels for your setup, the stiffer spring shouldn't cause any damage. If it's so strong that the wastegate is kept closed, increasing boost beyond the control of the WGFV I'd start to worry about boost spikes. The stronger springs do provide a good kick of boost lower down the rev range

If my car is not running correctly right now, then I don't want to be right! The spring isn't stiff to the point that the car over boosts or has boost spikes at all, but has a LACK of lag and power begins down in the lower RPMs now.

I imagine if mechanical boost using a stiffer spring doesn't exceed normal max boost at the redline (or minimum boost level), then it should be ok.

I found that when going to bigger turbos I had to use a stiffer spring or the lag was way to much. I realize a good remap will help this but you get me Mihnea in the states and I'll have a good remap done, otherwise I plan to go stand alone in a year or so. For now its a stiff spring with it cranked down a few turns to boot.

I tried one ages ago and boost did come in way sooner but it started to spike quite badly not long after, i was lucky not to damage anything. Just be careful, get it mapped properly with a spring your tuner reccomends IMO.
