Stock/RS2 mass air flow meter reaching it's limits?

A few of us in the US have been sucking in the hot wire in the MAF on high boost car, rendering the MAFs useless. This seems to be happening on stock ones with a higher frequency than RS2, but the RS2 unit's are also suffering the same fate. I'm on my third MAF, and with the new WG spring and a bit more boost, I'm getting a similar misfire as when my last MAF went.

I'm wondering if you guys are seeing the same rate of failure as we, and if so, what, besides replacing hte MAF every few months, are you doing about it?

I plan to do the 1.8T coil conversion that has been posted on the Audiworld Original S-cars forum to rule out any weak coils.

Hey Emre, try a search on this, there are quite a few discussions on it.

Is it failure because of a broken wire? If so, it is because of the air going back to the filter when changing gear - tested this on the rolling road (my car and Jeffers) and there is a huge back wave - that must stress the wire a lot more than running lots of power. 530+ is not a problem on the MAF on the pressurised side.

Yes, the wire breaks. And this seems to happening only on cars pushing a lot of boost.
