It coudl be that with the better performance you're simply giving it more Stick?!

Dodgy lambda and dirty MAF can both cause poor fuel consumption. Do you know when the lambda was last changed? Are you noticing any other poor running issues?

Have you checked the fault codes?

Lamda or thermostat are good things to change.

Change the lambda first, that's an easy job - VAGParts will supply you one no problem.

How much does the thermostat affect fuel consumption and performance?

A bad thermostat will make the computer think its running cold so more fuel will be added.

so obviously the fuel consumption would be poor but what about performance? i heard that a bad thermostat does dent performance quite a bit is this true?

Having simillar probs on my coupe. Changing the thermostat and seeing how I get on as it's running at 65-75 in the recent cold weather... Lambda is next. Total cost of around £100 for the parts and a few grazed knuckles for the thermostat methinks...

When the ECU was read it threw up a fault code for the active mapping (or something simillar) function so I half expecting the Lambda to be knackered too.Thermostat l;ooks like it's going to be an interesting job.

                              Likely cost of thermostat replacement

I'm interested in getting a reasonable costs estimate (to, say, nearest 100 quid) for cost (parts and labour) of thermostat (and lambda probe) relpacement on a 1995 ABY, using a soecialist, rather then an Audi dealer. Does anyone have recent information on this?
If it's good, they'll stop making it.
