Is that a 'specialist' or a 'socialist' you mean there ?

From memory here's a good reckoner...

Lambda probe anywhere from 60-80 quid approx. Get Audi or Bosch part only. Half an hour job if you have the right tool (another 20 quid or so).

Thermostat including seal shouldn't set you back more than 25 quid. This can be an evil job and you should reckon on changing the two coolant hoses in that area at the same time. Reckon on a tenner for those. Given the amount of disassembly required to get to this part of the engine, reckon on four hours for this task.

      Specialist or socialist?

Thanks for the guidance. What I really need is a socialist specialist: somebody who knows what they are doing, but works for the good of society (in this case a society of 1: me).....

So, it seems that I should budget about 400 to 500 pounds for this. Pretty much what I guessed.
If it's good, they'll stop making it.

Did mine before Christmas. Removed the Main rad to vastly improve access and replaced a couple of water pipes whilst there. Total cost was £40 or so for everything including a coolant change. £400-£500 seems quite a lot for a couple of hours labour and £40 of OE parts! Lambada sensor is about £90-100 from VAG parts including VAT & P&P. Not too difficult to get at and fit yourself? (remove the airbox)
