    Cold running hesitation on throttle

    Goodmorning all,

i have been noticing that now that it is colder here in Greece, whenever i fire up in the morning, although it does ok and idle is good,i have poor accuracy from the throttle. The car hesitates to pressing the gas pedal a bit,and it takes a few seconds for the engine to realise that the foot is not carressing the pedal,it is actually pressing it a bit further down!!!

Everything dissapears as soon as engine temp begins to build up.I think it is kind of normal, but reminds me the old cars that used the 'chock'mechanism to manually provide rich mixture on cold start so that it wouldnt stall in the morning. In those cars they too had poor throttle responce until the temp got to rising a bit...

    cheers

    Hi Vasilis,

    I've exactly the same "problem".
    Though i don't think it's a malfunction or something.

Are there more people with the same?

    Greets, Tim

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread but I've noticed this exact same "problem". After starting there is definitely a hesitation in acceleration when the throttle is pressed the first few times.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? It in itself isn't really an issue, but if it's an sign of a more serious problem it would be good to know!

      Cheers.

I'm fairly sure this is due to a dirty MAF, I had the same thing on my old MAF

that, or a bad lamda. Usually those 2 were the most common things on motronic ecu problems

Aye, I fitted a dirty MAF (that I've been using for ages with no issues) and the idle on startup was horrendous but the car ran fine when warm. All I can think of is that the dirty MAF meant that at low air volume, the MAF was misreading horrendously and so the ECU was having a bit of a hissy fit. At higher loads and thus more volume, the error would have been lower.

Replaced the MAF with a spare, claen one and all is fine. On inspection the problematic one was really dirty, a good sparay with carb cleaner has sorted it out and I'll trest it again when I can be bothered to touch it.
