vagcom help needed

I've been thinking of buying vagcom recently, but i'm not sure where the best place to get it from is.I've heard you can make up your own cable, has anyone done this?, as they are 50 quid on there own so i've seen plus the software, it will end up being quite expensive.So any cheap ideas will be well received

spink, Glen Chamberlain has a contact for a lead - i think it was £40 but you also need the adapter for our older cars.

you can use the free download version of VAG-COM and decide after if you want the full functionality of the the registered version

Ive just been at www.ross-tech.com but it dosent seem to give you an option to buy the lead on its own. anyone know where the plugs are on a 3B

£43 inc delivery i think it was to be honest? Well its turn up @ work today after it got passed arround the office, and everyone asked whos orded this??????? Didn't think to ask me in the garage?

Anyhow enough bitching, not tried it yet but looks pretty cool! Well like a standard PC lead and a small black box but u know what i mean! As for the other lead to adapt again to our cars, is about the same price iam told from the same guy "Tim". Iam currently thinking of making the second lead myself so ill keep you posted on how that goes!!

Made the second lead for our cars from the 16 pin OBD socket @ work today! Works a treat! £43 saved thanks very much! Its dead easy to make i got a couple of diagrams of both plugs and lashed it up from a few terminals and 7 core trailer cable (for the coulors). The original lead would be far better cos this is a bit of assing about with all the little fiddly connectors making sure they DONT touch each other but saved £43! Will make it better with an old 16 pin OBD from the scrapies! It works and thta what counts!

Just need a better battery in my lap top now!

Yup thats it! Doesnt look anywhere as nice and neat as that though! but does the same job and cost me £0

Basically if you look in the end of the OBD socket ther are only 5 out of the 16 pins used. +, -, K and L. not sure about the 5th?

Anyhow our cars 2x2 connectors are!! yup, +, -, K and L. So find out whats what and hey presto! £cash saved!

It took me minutes to find the diagrams. i can mail them if you like but the 2x2 one is on s2central (thanks Paul!) and the OBD one is in the Vag Com manual which i down loaded with the free version of Vag Com!

PM some emails and i'll mail them to you guys!
