    Water pipe warning!

Changed the thermostat on Friday afternoon and did 2 water pipes in that area at the same time. Was rather shocked at the state of the pipe going to the turbo from the water manifold, not only was it brittle and cracked but there was a bloody great bulge in it too. Not good. Not the nicest of jobs but VERY pleased to have replaced the parts. Many thanks to the chaps at MRC and VAG parts for their advice and help. Very much recommended if you're unsure as to whether these pipes have ever been touched.

Yip - they are a ****** to do, and because you cannot see them its easy for them to be in a degraded state without anyone knowing.

I have included these two nasty link hoses in the Samco water hose kit for completeness.

There's actually two - and they are hard to find in the family album... I can dig out numbers if you like. Actually I have some original items if you need them. Of course these are part of the Samco water kit #2.

The fatter one of these two hoses connects the water rail to the thermostat housing, whilst the thinner hose connects the water rail to the turbocharger.

I bought a metre of the small bore hose off VAG parts so if anyone needs the 3" or so required then give me a shout as I have quite a bit spare!

Another one to check is the one from the heater matrix to the back of the block, mine looked like a balloon animal it was that swelled, and its one of those you cannot do at the roadside at least until the engine has cooled. I managed to fit my new one by only removing the Airbox, but i took off quite a bit of bark in the process. You can Just slide you hand between the downpipe and heatshield protecting the brake fluid reservoir and the other hand will go behind the engine to help the first hand but it would'nt be funny if you got your hand stuck and it is a possibility.
