Rev Limits

7200 on my 7A, it does change though, sometimes it will kick in about 6700-6800rpms, seems the harder i drive it and the hotter the engine gets the higher the limiter kicks in.
On mine i dont see any point in removing it as power drops off just before 7k, anything after that is unnecessarily hard on it anyway IMO. Anytime i seem to hit it will be flat out in 2nd going around roundabouts where changing up isn’t an option, probably best to keep it for safety sake...
Put it this way there dual sprung valves, when i got the car one if the inner springs was broken on an exhaust valve and the car would never rev past 5900rpms before the ECU cut power. I don’t know when you get valve bounce with both springs in place but i wouldnt want to test it

SOunds like we all have different limits then. Still Mcandmar it is strange if it does move as you suggest that it would ley me go off the dial. I don't usually drive like this I was just on a 75 mile trip to work and fancied a blast down the country roads to get there.Dark Grey Avant

In my cq20v before i fixed the plug, you had to rev it so the needle went off the dial, otherwise the revs would drop below the power band when you changed up a gear. You can feel when and where the engine is happy, so if it wants to rev more, let it I say. It also used to amuse my passengers, if they noticed the tacho going past 8000rpm.
After it was fixed it was happiest between 4000 and 6500 rpm IIRC. I normally found I was naturally wanting to change gear before the rev limiter.SSComment

There are cars now where the rev limiter automatically adjusts depending upon the engine temperature - I think it's the BMW M5 - when cold, the limit is lower and it increases as the engine warms up - sensible I think.Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
