    Ticking Injectors

Pulled up last night after a bit of a thrash and one of my injectors was ticking really rather loudly. The car wasn't idling the best either

The way I see it I can either clean the ones in there, get a secondhand rail and swap the bad one out, buy some new standard ones or source some RS2 ones and banrupt myself for no good reason.

What's the damage on a new, standard injector?

Anyone got a secondhand rail that they know the mileage of (My car's at 140k so any more would seem pointless)? If so how much?

Where can I get them cleaned?

Anyone won the Lottery recently and wants to donate some RS2 units?

      78.60*1.175=£92.36 each
      92.355*5=£461.80! Ouch

Still, one injector for a Digi mk.3 Golf 8v whas £125+vat from VW so I suppose it's all relative.

Not planning on 350+bhp any time soon so there seems little point.

I think I'll be going the seconhand route! Anyone breaking an ABY or are 3B injectors the same?

You sure it was an injector ticking and not a tappet?
I'm sure there's a way of triggering the output tests if you don't have vag-com to hand which can trigger each injector seperatly.
          Check s2central.com's diagnostic section.

Pretty sure. I've hear enough knackered injectors on Golfs to be quite confident about that!

@Fourrings: Cheers for the advice, I'll have a look. Being sequential, they are all individually wired so it should be possible.

I'm guessing that if one's complaining then the whole lot aren't too happy. I remember reading that someone on here had a set ultrasonically cleaned with decent results for the money. Will have a trawl later on.

yes,Angus and I had mentioned about injector cleaning. It is a short process and a good one too.You can feel your car being more lively in the lower revs, where the lag is(well on RS2 you have that 1000-3000rpm space).
However RS2 injectors are loud!I thought i was having tappeting noises but instead it's the regular noise from the injectors.I dont know if the ones from the S2 are as loud too.
              cheers

Never noticed any noise from mine. Can only assume that's a good thing....

Injectors do make a slight noise which many people mistake for tappets.

If they're virtually silent then one of two things. 1 they're chugging along nicely and all's well! 2. they're not working and you have invented a perpetual motion machine.

Either way it's a good thing!

Had listen again tonight. There are two or three different (but quiet) tapping / clicking noises but I can't tell exactly where they are coming from....

I guess mine do make a noise, but I have never really noticed it...

that was my first impression as well.i even had it recorded mine(i think i posted the sound here). It is best heard around the ISV valve round the back of the top side of the engine.

What sort of mileage have your injectors done?

Might be worth you getting them cleaned and flow tested
