    Ecu "keys" another good topic....

    Swapping chips made simple
So which keys are for our application?

    This is sweetness.

Josh, another thing you've found on Audiworld and which you didn't understand correctly, as didn't the original poster either...

EVC's keys are just scrambling sockets for all ECU types out there, which means that the chips are programmed through those sockets and the chips' contents are thus rendered impossible to read on any normal eprom burner. I.e. if you take the chip off the socket and read it, the contents will be BS, and if you try to read it through the socket, nothing will come out of it....

Swapping chips in our ECU types is very easy, as most of them are socketed from the factory and if they aren't 2 simple sockets can be installed, it takes about 1 hour or even less to do properly and neatly... then all you have to do is pull the chip out and put the new one in!

Stay tuned here for bi-chip upgrades guys, I'm currently working on a switch that lets you run 2 chipsets in the same ECU without having to open the ECU, just flick the switch and that's it!

    Cheers,

Will you have one for next week

And can get a 2nd map that guarantees it will pass the MOT? (without cats)

Means you can have PHAT mode and ECONOMY mode LOL

My mate has one of those REVO switches for his Golf Anniversary TDi. He can go from stock to chipped at the press of a button through the OBDII. It is pretty quick for a frugal oil burner and is not far off the pace of an R32. REVO do a system for the 1.8T engine that allows you to use the cruise stalk to switch between chips. You can have 3 chips on that so you can even set a lower-than-stock chip for the wife! That's neat!

Can't wait for the double chip S2 system. A CAT-less MOT program sounds very interesting...

APR also makes a chip with 4 settings for the 1.8t and 2.7t. Stock, chipped, racing (100 octane), and vallet (0 psi, topspeed 50 mph)

yup, I know about APR and I think Revo just copied the idea, as Revo's engineers have worked for APR a while ago.

The idea with 4 chips is feasible but it takes time to develop and I don't really have that much time to spare between, ahem, family life, remapping and doing research on Motronic ME7 and TDI ECUs... at least for now...

I don't know yet if the "twin chipset mit switch" is going to be available yet but MOT with no cats should be no big issue anyway if we get a chance to hook up a 4 gas tester on the dyno and play a bit with the mixture at idle, why bother with 2 chipsets when just one that's done properly for a correct mixture at idle will do?

                    Cheers,

Even better . One map for pump gas and another for 107 Octane race fuel!

Do you think there is any possibility that we can get a gas tester on my car on Monday? I've got a MOT coming up at the end of the month and I don't want to fail it!! If it is easy to do at PTS I wouldn't mind checking emissions. I'm sure it will be fine anyway. I have more faith in Mihnea than the rest of the UK Audi tuning scene put together! 7 days...bling!

I thought there was an emissions test at higher RPMs that it needed to pass as well?

About 2000rpm isn't it? Where are our garage owners? Hardly ever go below 2k on the roads and track action saw the needle stay above 4k all the time. Would be great if the low revs could be comprimised to meet our UK emissions without CATs IMHO.

you have to hold it steady at 3000rpm for part of the new testing scheme. Just make sure that if you do have cats still fitted they are nice and warm otherwise will give a crap reading. And since S2's have two take even longer to warm them up!

Do you still have your CATs Greg?

I don't want to have to put them on for the MOT if I can get away without doing that - PITA doing that on the driveway.
