5 cylinder engines...

From what I can gather, you guys are on about the V5 diesel? Don't forget VW also did the straight 5 Diesel AAB engine fitted in the transporter/caravelle. AAB was the non turbo, not sure what code is on the turbo.
Anyway, after all is said and done, the 5 has to be the best sounding engine ever! My old WN 1.9 used to sing and rev so freely!

The VW V5 engine was first called VR5 here, meaning that it IS a VR6 without a cylinder/piston whetever. 12 degree V, 1 head, 10 or 20 valves and a lovely sound that reminded me of my KV engine.

Volvo just reinvented the wheel this year when they've put out the new S60 with a 5 cylinder 20v engine putting out 300HP, sounds a bit like the RS2 of the year 2000 in a much uglier and heavier car...

My boss has the S60 R (300BHP and 400NM) and its a nice car especially by VOLVOs standards. It's chassis can take the 300 horses easily not like the T5's and it pickes up very well from down low in the rev-range. As for being hevier? umm dunno about that i would have thought the S2 was hevier!

If its owt to you my stcok S2 with an RS2 Turbo with your map can sit on its rear bumper in a straight dash! Would need miles of rd to pass it but can defiantly stick with it no probs! but i do have 75 nm more and 30-40 BHP more too?

The VOVLO wins hands down in the corners though! mine cant touch it there! fair play to VOLVO with that!

(Even more of a pipe and slipper immage with the S60 than my Avant! )

This was why I was interested in fitting alternative heads to the Audi 5 pot. I took my dads Volvo 850R engine out over Xmas and had a good look at the intake ports. Here's the photo. Quite a nice design for a stock head!
