    lumpy running

    Curious one yesterday.
Went to work in the morning and returned later in the day. S6 performed faultlessly. Got home and went to go out about 2 hours later. Car started awfully, like it was only on 4 cylinders, would rev and was a pig to drive.
    Started checking stuff.
Did an output test to check that stuff was being driven by the ecu. OK
Checked the plugs, bit loose but in good condition. OK
Checked the ohms on the injectors. OK
Pulled connector off MAF and checked volts. OK
    Checked MAF ohms. OK
Plug back on and checked volts with ign on, idling, and blipped throttle. OK

By this time it was getting dark, so packed up and ordered VAG COM to arrive for Sunday. Thanks Dave

In the clear light of day I went a bit deeper. Took the MAF off and cleaned it in IPA, it was clean before and after, checked volts and ohms again. OK
Then I thought I would check the POS.
On the 4 pin part one of the pins on the car side (engine side I had disconnected and removed the coil packs when I did the top end rebuild) was bent over to such a degree that the connector pin had been pushed across and was not sliding over the male pin. Tweaked the pin and the connector so that they lined up properly and she fired up first time and idle just as she has done every day since buying her.
Dave arrived with VAGCOM. No codes shown whatsoever, except the ones for removing the injector plugs while it was running during investigation.

This plug had been like this since before my ownership, I find it bizzare that this has never come to light before. I am glad I found something but still have a niggle at the back of my mind that there may (???) be something more sinister lurking.

    Corey,

My UrS4 avant did this once warmed up after 15-20 minutes of driving, no fault codes at all. The POS firing number 2 plug was breaking down when hot, found it like you by pulling off injector leads. Swapped number 2 POS output to the unused one on the other module to keep me going until I got a new POS module.

I'm sure you've found your problem OK.

    Graeme.

Those POS modules are aptly named as the abbrevation is useful to describe the situation when one goes faulty - VAGCOM is almost useless at detecting such faults.

Patience and diligence is required to check all the simple stupid things that might lead to an electrical problem - VAGCOM doesn't tell us everything...
