Cant really help with a guide, read the bentley manual and get stuck in

The norm is to also replace belts, water pump, sometimes the idler pully, and always buy a new crank pully for the timing belt as they allways crack around the woodruff key.

Getting the big nut off the crank pully is the most difficult part, you will need to get a crank locking tool or fabricate one to hold the crank by the pully when you undo and retorque the nut, i think its got to be 400nm or so, not easy at all.

Don't use the gearbox to lock the engine to undo the crank pulley is the general concensus.

I pay Autopool £300 to do mine

        Cheers,

          Just had mine changed....

I changed all the belts, the thermostat and seal, the 2 small water hoses and waterpump whilst in there. The water pump is an exchange item so only cost me £25 (trade price )

          054 121 004 AX = water pump with gasket F 8B-M-033 001
          035 121 043 = round seal
          034 121 063 C =water hose
          034 260 849 E = v-belt (Power steering)
          034 903 137 B = ribbed v-belt (Altenator)
          069 121 113 = coolant thermostat
          N 901 368 02 = round seal
          054 109 119 H = toothed belt (cam belt)
          054 919 369 B = Overrun switch
          054 109 244 F = tensioning roller

Total bill was not much over £120, I think, for all the parts (at trade prices ) plus a decent chrimbo present for my mate...who owns the garage that did it for me

          Also worth considering
          034 105 229 A = crank pulley bolt (on back order ATM)
          034 105 263 A = crank pulley

and also depending on when cambelt last done:
          054 109 479 A = belt tensioning damper complete - expensive!!!

(HUGE thanks to Ben [S2Avant] for confirming those part codes for me and for the advise when I did mine)

          Cheers n

No the little one on the crank to drive the belt, any i have taken apart were cracked, my 7A one split in two when i took it off

For the idler pully i mean the belt tensioning damper bearing thing, old ones get noisy..
