    VAG-COM setup and usage help

    Hey Folks.

Tried to connect up my laptop to the car today.... but am left with several questions...

Intro: Dell laptop, com port, ABY

1: the black of my 2x2 connector can connect either way round... does it matter which way round I connect it?

    2: I assume I choose Audi 80 B4 ? If not, what do I choose?

3: when I "test" on com port 1, what should it say? currently says "no problems, but nothing in connected"

4: which bit in VAG-COM do I click on to get my fault codes, and from there, how do I delete them?

5: What is the procedure for opperation, and is the order critical? e.g. connect PC, ignition, start VAG-COM, setup port etc...

    Hope you can help.

    Thanks Folks!!!

      1) Connect it the same way as the other one ie clip to the same side.
      2) Yes.
      3) I never tested mine, just plugged it in and used it.
      4) Engine usually depends what you are lloking at / for.
      5) Mine doesn't seem to mind.

Pictures of your connectors would help.

I'll be looking at the Airbag. I need to delete a fault...

I've put a pic up on my gallery. Sorry, I don't know how to get it on here...
The plugs don't have any clips on them...

You can see the form in the black connector on the bottom edge. There are two chamfers - look carefully at your connections in the fuse box and you will see the same form, make sure that you match it and you should be away

Ah yes... I see that now BRY. Thanks!

I did try, and it does go on both ways...

It may be difficult for me to see into the socket area in that much detail, but I shall try.

            Thanks very much!!!!

I think Paul (S2central) mentioned this in another thread, make sure you are away from the airbag, just incase.
I've had one of these S2 airbags fire in my face, and it isn't funny.

                Thanks Jas.

Job done now. Will have to do a full diagnostic when I can get time though.
