high idle, smoke and wont take the revs

encountered my first real problem with my S2 today.

i had the cam cover out for high gloos polish, and when i put i all back togheter the car did not run as normal.

The idle was around 12-1300 and very jumpy, and it was very slow to pick up the revs and grey smoke came out the exhaust. I did not drive it, only 30 secs of idle to figure out something was off.

After a little searching around i found one sparkplug cable completely snapped of at the top where it enters the plug that goes down the cam cover.

a little more searching showed a lot of duck tape, that previous owner must have put on, after breaking the plug (plastic bits inside the rubber cracked and loose) for some odd repair job, and the core of the cable was all green and corroded and very brittle.

now i am waiting for tomorrow so i can order a new cable, but should i troubleshoot some more, as the cable is probably going to be a 1 or 2 day wait, or would this broken cable with bad connection be the solution.

for removing the cam cover i had the big inlet pipe from the IC to intake manifold, and throttle body removed, and the electrical connection for two injectors remowed also.

Car ran fine before me fooling around so what else could i have messed up Suppose that one should keep ones hands to oneself once in a while, but thats no fun anyway

Also, should i replace just the broken cable or all 5 of them , the 4 others look ok, and are these pieces insane expensive as im anticipating

it may be worth changing them all since they sound like all have seen better days. Magnecor do performance replacements. Other than that check your dizzy cap and rotor are to make sure they aren't worn and that they are clean

whew, she's running perfect again, got the old lead/cable soldered back togheter as an emergency solution, as the new replacement is not available before monday, great service Audi ;-)

oh yeah, real cheap at 65 euro a piece :-/

anyway, just happy that everything else is ok :-)
