There's a lightweight pressed steel front pulley from a Vauxhall that can be made to fit the I5. I believe it only has a V belt though, so it would be useless for the later cars with a serpentine belt. This part was fitted to Simon Bainbridge's hillclimber (the Fibrelyte car) Not sure what happened to the motor from it. Try Aelred for more info..

your aluminum one will only be bout 4kgs why would you want to go even lighter? on a cast one they mill holes in the fly wheel to lighten it and balance it

just about to say that you beat me to itOriginally posted by aelredJust for the record Simon Banbridge sold the racing S2 to QRSport as a rolling shell, the engine was sold to someone else and now it is in a standard car slightly de-tuned

If it’s of any interest to anybody i rang this guy this morning and had a good chat with him to sort out the myths from facts.
Q: When fitting aftermarket rods and pistons is a re-balance required?
A: Definitely.
Q: When changing out the flywheel and or the front vibration damper is a re-balance required?
A: You could get away with out but its not advised. Crank, Flywheel and Pulley are balanced as a complete unit in the I5's.
Q: What process is used to balance the entire assembly?
A: Pistons, Rings, Clips, Rods, are all balanced equal, and then bob weights are made to match weights. Crank, flywheel, and pulley are all bolted together with bob weights attached to each throw, entire assembly balanced. Then Clutch can be added on and the process is repeated.
Q: What do I need to send him for the job?
A: Everything. Complete pistons, rods, rings, shells, clips, Crank, flywheel, pulley, nuts and bolts, and bearing shells.
Q: What does it cost?
A: 120+carrage+vat
Still can’t believe how little it costs, defiantly one step I won’t be skipping on my build.
Originally posted by SteveHAnt, The 5 cyl crank in standard trim is not neutrally balanced. This means all components connected to the crank are part of the complete balanced package. The OE crank can be machined to zero or neutral balance, in this case you can add any pulley or flywheel (as long as it's zero balanced) without any problems.
