Worrying Bang

Hi guys,

I have had a bang for a while under the car and just haven't neen able to point to the source of it anywhere.

Anyway after jacking the car up on stands to have a play with all the bushes it went not there at all and I did about 30 miles towards Brum without a single peep. Stopped. Parked on a kerb and it is now back with avangance. It does seem twice as bad as before.

The location of the noise seems like it is around my feet, I thought it could be the exhaust downpipe knocking, the only thing I have not been able to check yet fully is the engine mounts. I'm guessing that this could be the problem as the banging only happens on lateral (left to right/vice versa) bumps.

Any advice or has this happened and done someone elses head in before?

P.s. Top mounts are shot but they wouldn't cause that would they?????

I would look at the propshaft bearing ...i had the same noise and looked at everything until someone here told me about it and it was the cause

Cheers, but I don't think that this is it as it happens under load. It only happens when driving and a lateral bump (i.e. small pot hole) is driven over. It is really strange as no one can put their finger on it in anyway shape or form. I have yet to check the gear box mounting as this is where my brain is pointing as there can be alot of play in the gear stick which I have noticed today. Also it shoots about a bit when lifting of the loud pedal.

Tomorow will tell though.
