Can you answer Aaron's question now pls?
Supercharger Idea

A chap with a mk.1 fiesta supersport fitted a second butterfly that opened and effectively bypassed the superchager thus feeding the turbo/engine with all the air it requires. Used something along the lines of a Sierra central locking actuator or something! Ingenious.
IMHO 2.0 8vs are no good at all on a 285 cam, try a 270 instead, with a supercharger that should be very torquey, even if the top end is a bit dull. From experience the power gained from a 285 is nowhere near as useful as the torque from a 270. The 285 is much better suited to a 1.8 or 1.9 overbore. Personal opinion and choice and all that.
@ WAB, has said golf got a severly ported head with at least 40/35mm valves or even better 40.5/35 41/35?Cheers'en, AndyC

M45 is ample for a 2.0 8v, dont be tempted to try and get loads of Boost, 6-7psi is plenty, In a Positive displacement supercharger installation boost is just showing up a restriction in the system somewhere.
Dont Over Cam it either
Concentrate on a Decent exhaust, use a Chargecooler preferably, dont be tempted to run huge intercoolers with long pipe runs either, it kills the response
As for Turbo and Supercharged, I would be inclined to switch the 2 using a Fly by Wire throttle, controlled by the ECU that way you can map the changeover point with complete control

I dont know how many of you guys have heard about this, but i read whole article from one my engineering magazines that i am receiving to my home about new VW 1.4L engine that produces 168 hp. It has both supercharger for low end and turbocharger for top end. Basicly they use some sort of switchover valve that direct charge from supercharger or turbocharger at aproropriate time. Article stated that lag is virtuatly none and torque is delivered throughout complete rpm range.Comment

I think it stated that it goes on sale in europe later this year, but i dont rememeber corectly. I was just thinking that that would probably be hard one to tune, since you have to deal with two different types of charging engine with air. But i am sure that someone will figure it out. But sounds to me that idea aplied to S2 engine would make a hell of a car: good engine with power throughout huge rpm range coupled with quattro. I am getting excited alreadyComment

Don't some (more expensive) charges come with electronic clutches? Surely one of these could be adapted to declutch at a required time. I know there is going to be alot of work involved. For example.
1. Move Rad to the boot to give ample room for a charger
2. Fit aditional intercooler/chargecooler for the supercharger
3. Larger Turbo and Intercooler(RS2 cooller and bigger turbo????)
4. Pipes and lots of them.
5. Custom IM
6. PAnic
7. Run away screaming,
8. Stick head in sand as car blows up.
9. Get it right
10. Blow everyone away in the acceleration stakesDark Grey Avant

No No No No No. But maybe long far away saxon doing scottish sort of way!!!!!!
I think I am going to have to delve into this for a while to come up with the answer. If only I could get the number of the company who did the focus!!!!

The idea of declutching a blower is not really ideal, unless you intend to declutch the blower as well as bypassing it! In the old Lancia the principle was to for the Rootes type blower to suck through the turbo at low engine speeds, and for the turbo to force feed the blower at the higher engine speeds.
A properly built, free running Rootes type supercharger will rotate quite easily - to the point where a car can be made to run (badly) with the belt disconnected and using the atmospheric pressure to charge the cylinders by sucking through the blower. Therefore a blower which is being force fed by a turbo would work quite effectively with drive fully engaged, the pressurised charge being used to give the blower a "free ride" and reduce it's tendency to restrict the engine at the upper end.
It's brutal, not sophisticated and probably not pretty, but it does work.
BTW I think intercooling after the blower would be handy - but how to achieve that is a matter of taste. Some big US built blowers can be had with a air-water intercooler system, but it's really for short-term use with a tank of chilled water. Otherwise you get into the realms of another radiator and pumping system!

Yep I would agree with that Intercooler after the blower would be a damn site better, thinking on what you said though surely if the turbo and blower were hooked up inline then the air is already going to be going through the intercooler, it would just be the plumbing that would be a problem, If that is the case the every thing can stay stock except the air pipework, si senior or no????Dark Grey Avant
