    engine undertray

i was looking for a undertray and found one off ebay for £20 without the fixings. What sort of fixings do you need, as my s2 has never had a tray and in the wet the contacts on the starter get wet and we have a no go situation!also how much would a genuine tray be with fixings?

If it's the pattern part you've seen on eBay, don't bother. I bought one and it snapped into pieces not long after being put on. The eBay auction mentioned that OEM is around £150, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

The fixings are just a twist & lock affair, although mine's mostly held on with tiewraps.

As Karlos says, tie wraps are fine and are what most people use, work fine for me.
but if you want really ana1 you can get the original fixing kit from Marty and the guys at Vagparts here.

yea i ws told to they were around £150 but the one off ebay for £20 was the last one and for some reason was thinner than the others therefore even more likely to break!have to get hold of one from vag.Had to be bump started off the garage forecourt today because of water getting into the starter!

I've not got an undertray on my car either. It saves it from blowing off at 150mph.

Your starter problem is absolutely nothing to do with wet contacts, lots of S2's are running around with no undertray.

Besides, what about Ur quattro 20V? They had no undertray, and weren't only driven in summer

Like mine did last summer At least the tie wraps stopped it exiting from the rear at hitting the Saab 9000 Carlson that I'd just whooped

The only reason I keep it on is cos I'm a tart and like the engine bay to stay tidy

but the starter is in a very prone position to getting wet especially on country road with pot holes you could disappear into, and lanes that turn into lakes as soon as it rains!Just when we got it home all the contacts on the starter were drenched to took them all off cleaned them up and then no probs!
