Just brought an S2 but having problems

    Hi all

I have just brought an Audi S2 today and i'm having some problems.

The car is having some running problems, When I floor it, the car goes well till about 4,000 revs and it seems to loss power, It still picks up but slowly it seems to be backing off. If i take the car out of gear it revs all the way without a problem.

The problem is only when I'm driving it and it also loses alot of power when going up hills, It wants to stall.

    Can anyone please help thanks

probably a boost leak,or split hose somewhere, visually check all pipework for splits or damage, check all jubilee clips for tightness, make sure all your spark plugs are ok and tight, may also be a dodgy coilpack if its an aby or ht lead if its a 3b,really you need to pressure test it or read the fault codes...

Thanks, How can I do a pressure test can I do that myself. I pressume I would need to have the right equipment.

I take it i will need to go to audi to get the fault codes, Does anyone know the cost to get the fault codes.

The car is a 3b model if that helps

      thanks ever so much

faultcodes can easily be pulled using nothing more than a 12v LED.

all the info you need will be on Paul's website at www.s2central.net

the blinkcode specifics can be found HERE.

Pressure testing can be a DIY job but you do need a compressed air supply and a bung set. I'm sure someone local to you may have the facilities. Whereabouts are you?

If you are anywhere near Baschurch in Shropshire tommorow then it would be the ideal opportunity to get your car checked by any number of Technical Gurus that post on this excellent site See the "Garage Meet" thread in the Meetings/Gatherings/Events section.

If you have bought your first S2 and need to sort it out then you couldn't be in a better place

Where in the UK are you?

Check to see if you car is getting enough air into the engine. I had a similar problem when I first got my s2. The feed into the airbox (i.e. the section of plastic that feeds air from behind the headlight to the air filter box was missing from my car !) Car would run fine up to 4500rpm then it would struggle. As soon as I directed air back into the air filter box problem was solved. I didn't replace the missing section, I've now got a piece if 3" diameter silicon hose feeding lots of lovely cold air into the air filter box.

                thanks for all your replys.

I am based in Bournemouth, I just checked the car and the air box feed at the front behind the headlight is missing. Could this be the problem, I have got an induction kit would it be a good idea to place this on to see if it still has the same problem.

Or would you recommend getting an cold air feed and connected it to the airbox. Would this also explain why it has problems going up hills and I seem to have to keep dropping it down a gear and then it goes up them just fine?

                Thanks again

The air feed isnt likely to cause this problem. To do a pressure test you need 3 bungs.

A visual check of all pipe work is a good start. There may be a member nearby who can help you. it may be the O ring on the intercooler. Boost leaks are difficult to trace at first though.

hi ian jemo, ive had my S2 1995 ABY about 4 months now and its starting to get on my nerves, dont get me wrong, the car is awsome when the overbostprotection doent come in, ive done the mod on the intercooler using the samco hose and checked all the pipe work the inlet and outlet side visually, replaced a few jubile clips and tightend some, changed the WGSV and checked the ohmage, but its still kangerooing, only seams to do it in 4th 5th and 6th, but iam assuming this is because the boost changes when in them gears, its nearley undrivable on the motorway, so anoying , Does anyone close to me have a presure test kit they could lend me, i would much appreciate any feeback, thanks for all those who have helped previouly I love the car and the drive but its a shame its letting the fun down. please

ALWAYS remember to reset the ECU after you fix major boost leaks.... Otherwise you will keep getting cutouts as the faultcodes will remain. SImply pull the pair of fuses under the 'MOTOR' clip in the fusebox for a minute or so - this resets the ECU.

with a boost leak will you be able to hear where the problem is coming from? I pressume you would hear some kind of noise, Why is the car able to rev right up ok but not when driving?

Is there apart of the car which has a weakness for these leaks which i should check?

Is there anyone who lives near bournemouth in Dorset who has got a pressure check to help, your help would be much appreciated

Thanks ever so much again for all the help

                          Hi all.

I had a look at my car today and found the problem. The inlet pipe which is after the MAF had one hell of a ripe in it. I have taped it up for the time being.

Does anyone know where I can get this part from? I would have included a pic but its to big. The pipe is the one attached straight onto the MAF sensor. I have also noticed that some of the members have got some really nice piping, where can you get it from and how much?

Since I fixed it, I went out for a blast in my car and have know noticed that the rocker gasket has gone as well. Does anyone know the price for one?

                          Thanks again
